new member, need opinions

Well here is my situation, I am new to the f-body scene. I have done most of my major work on g-bodys and other full framed cars. I built a very healthy 383 stroker and a built 700r4 for my iroc, the 5.0 that was in it was shot when I bought the car. I estimate the motor is putting out around 450 hp +. I have the stock 9 bolt posi disk rear end in the car. What do I need to do to get this car to hook up and make sure the power is getting to the ground.

NUMBER 1.

with that much power, you WILL need sub-frame connectors , and get a good weld in pair, if you do hook up with the torque the 383 will put out, you will twist that car. job number one on your car should be stiffening the chassis.

sticky tires. you can make power and dump money into your suspension, but it will only plant what the tires can take.

#3

after that, it is just replacing suspension peices. and waiting for something to break, so you can find out what you forgot to replace

get some Lower Control Arms, and relocation brackets for them.
and a panhard rod (trackbar)
also get a torque arm.

also, get a BIG rear sway bar

after you get all that done, if you do hook up, you are going to need to watch the rear , and the tranny. but you seem to be pretty knowledable about that sort of thing

im also new to f-bodys
i just bought a 82 Z-28 with drop spindles in front the desktop dyno puts the 350 motor at 540 horse plus i have a 250horse NOS kit for it (the motor was built for the bottle ) and a M-22 munci and NO traction .the rear end has an eaton posi and 4:11 gears . will the rear end hold up to that much power with a good set of MW axels? i plan on street slicks. i have gathered that i need SFC welded in good LCA and drop brackets . and a good torq arm . help i need to make this thing HOOK!
thanks
mike

as for if your rear will take it... i will let the experts answer that one, i dont' know all the specs on rear-ends

but with 540 HP, if you plan to run it at a track, you will probably need a roll bar.

yes first do sub frame connectors. before you even take the car out for a spin. you'll twist teh whole body of the car VERY fast.

First, I would contact Steve Spohn. He is "The Man" on this sort of thing.

Thanks guys, I knew that I needed sfc's. How hard is it to weld them in? As far as twisting the body how can you tell, is it somthing that you would see if it was twisted already?

you may have cracks and the corner of where your doors are on the body. and just doors not shutting right, etc.

inconjunction with the subframe connectors, i would get a three point strut tower and a wonderbar (it goes under where the front sway bar mounts).. that would stiffen the chassis up alot..
