12-bolt disc brakes
12-bolt disc brakes
My friend might be giving me a 12-bolt for my camaro. All it needs is the brake assembly. Is getting all that expensive? What do I need to change when going from a disc 10 to a disc 12?
expensive? not to lot of people, guess it depends on what you call expensive. who made the rear? give them a call or look on line at what they have to offer. must be a hell of a friend to give you a 12 bolt for a f body, easily 2000 dollars.

ede: That should read "a 12 bolt for a third gen f body"
A 12 bolt for a third gen needs a special housing to be a bolt-in. The third gen uses a torque arm suspension and there are no factory 12 bolt housings that will work. Even a factory 12 bolt housing isn't an easy swap. Truck housings are too wide and use different gear sets than cars. Most car 12 bolt housings are too wide except for first gen f-body 12 bolts. I don't think the brakes will be a concern until you know if the diff will even fit in the car.
If it's a 12 bolt housing for a third gen then you have a very good friend.

1. It came out of a 3rd gen. I know its not stock, they only used 10-bolts and the occational 9-bolts. (I heard somewhere they used a Dana 44 on one Model.)
2. It was given to him for free, he was going to use it on his, but he got a moser 12-bolt for christmas and doesn't really need it.
I already have a disc 10 that is going in, but if I ever decide to run ntrous or need slicks etc etc I'll put that in.

i think the question i'd be asking is "if it was in a thirdgen f body why is he dropping all the jack on a 12 bolt from moser?" doesn't make much sense to buy one if you already have one, that works. i'm thinking along the lines of what stephen already said, it isn't for a f body, doesn't fit and doesn't work.
If it doesn't......I'll sell it. That easy enough of a answer? I have a Ebay account, so thats where it'll end up.
He was going to install it on his, but his relatives bought him a Moser. Why? I dont know. I'll check it out tommorow and let you guys know.
Forgot to mention, thanks for your jinx's you guys put on me.

68'-74' GM A-Body 12 bolts are almost the perfect width, about 1.5" narrower overall than a stock 10 bolt. But, not a direct bolt in rear like has been said. It took a bit of work to get the 69' Chevelle 12 bolt under my car - but for a $600 total investment, I can't complain.
