Will 255/50/16 tires fit without rubbing?

I currently have 215/65/15's and am getting new rims. I can just get the 245/50/16's, but the 255/50/16's would be almost the exact same tire height as the wheels I have now, so the speedo wouldn't be thrown off as much (I know it would only be like 1 mph at 60 mph with the 245's). My two conerns are:

1. Will this tire, which is like 10 inches wide or a little more fit okay on a 16 x 8 rim?
2. Will the front tires rub in the fender wells when turning?

Thanks,

Eric

I had 255/50/16's all the way around before I bought the RONALS's.

They rubbed in front only at full lock and at parking lot speeds. It wasn't bad at all.

They will fit.

What do you mean when you say they rubbed at parking lot speeds? How wide were your rims? Will they look too wide for a 16x8 rim?

They rubberd when the steering was at full turn and at low speed, like backing out of a parking space.

The rims were 16x8. The tire looked pretty good, IMHO.

I have 245/50/16 and they only rub the inner fender wells at full lock.

Would it work if I put the 255's on the rear and the 245's on the front, or does that sound like a stupid idea? They aren't that much different in size, so I wouldn't think it would look stupid or affect handling.

I think you should be ok if you went with 255s all the way around. I dont think they would rub enough to worry about it.

Yes, you can run 245s up front and 255s out back. Been running it that way for years.

Desert86Roc, do the back ones look a lot bigger when you're just walking by? I only want the 255's on the back so my speedo isn't off at all. I just don't want it to be noticeable that my tires are different sizes. I like the way it looks better when they're all the same size. Do you have any pictures of your car? I can put the 245's on all the way around and it won't be that big of a deal. I'm just trying to decide what's the best way to go. Thanks for all the input guys!

If you run 245s in the front and 255s in the back then there is no noticeable differece if someone were just walking by your car or driving by it. The only difference you'll notice is if you take a good look at them since the 255s are wider and have a very slightly taller profile. I think 245s up front and 255s in the back makes it look meaner.

I got the 255-50-16's on the rear of my 91, and 245's on the front. The fronts rub bad, it took the new paint off part of my GFX. What could have caused this? 245's are the stock size. Alignment is perfect, could the stops in the steering bos be bad?

ONE ADVANTAGE BESIDES BETTER BRAKES.THAT I GOT FROM SWITCHING TO 1LE BRAKES.IS THAT THE HAT/HUB ON THE 1LE ROTOR IS TALLER BY 1/2in.IF YOU LAY THE STOCK vs 1LE ROTORS NEXT TO EACH OTHER.YOULL SEE THE DIFF.WHAT THIS DOES IS MOVE THE WHEEL OUT 1/2in.GIVING YOU MORE ROOM B4 THE TIRE RUBS.ITs ABOUT THE SAME NOW AS IT WAS W/THE STOCK BRAKES/WHEELS (84z).I ALSO WELDED A 1/4in x 1/4in THICK SHIM ON THE BRACKET THAT CONTACTS THE KNUCKLE WHEN YOU TURN STEERING TO LOCK,BUT THIS WAS DONE B4 I SWITCH BRAKES.
