Had to raise my tranny to install my poly trans. mount, is this ok?

I installed my poly tranny. mount (5spd) today but to get the tranny crossmember on I had to raise the tranny about 3/4" to an inch above what it was with the old rubber mount. Is this gonna be a problem for me? Will this affect the tranny or clutch in any way?
I also notice a lot more sound and vibration now, I'm assuming that's because the poly transfers more sounds and vibrations then the rubber. The differences are noticeable but the only reason, other then the poly/rubber difference, I think I'd be hearing/feeling more is what I asked about above, the tranny needing to be raised. Let me know your thoughts about this too.

Thanks for the help

never found a way to do trans mounts without jacking the trans up a bit, increased noise and vibration is common complaint with poly mounts, but it never seemed to be any differant on my cars, or i don't notice it.

It may also seem like you raised the tranny up, but you may have just restored it to the original height. My old rubber one was noticably thinner than the new ES one I installed:

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking also, I couldn't imagine a company making a part that was that much off. I'm assuming things are now just where they're supposed to be, but I wanted to make sure.

Try it without the preload plate...I had alot of vibration after installing mine. I removed the plate and it went away. Do a search others have had similar problems.

I'm just the opposite. I installed the preload plate and I have NO problems. For added info, I also installed ES motor mounts at the same time so maybe they evened themselves out...????

I also did them at the same time. The tranny mount raised the transmission a little bit and the motor mounts raised the engine a little bit also. So both raised keeping the same drivetrain angle.

It might cause issues if you only do the trans mount because you are changing the angle of your drivetrain.

Try using a washer or two between your crossmemeber and the car when you install it. That should drop it back down a little.

The mount I used was the Prothane mount, it doesn't have a backing plate like the ES mount. I do notice every vibration from the tranny now though.

3/4 is alot... if its Vibrating that bad you might want to try and lower it some how. Maybe try the ES mount, 3/16 of an inch made all the diffrence for me. So no telling what 3/4 could be doing. I could barely tell a difference from the rubber to the poly in terms of vibration. Hope you get it worked out they are worth it. Not having to change the rubber one everytime you plant the tires.

Yeah I just have new stock rubber motor mounts. Those were a bitch to change dont want to do that again.

Same here, ebmiller... no vibrations ever. Granted yeah it's a v6, and an automatic... but it's strange that half the people talk about extra vibrations, and the other half haven't experienced it.

Have you guys compared -NEW- stock trans mounts to the poly mount? Old rubber might be squashed or bottomed out when you yank it from the car...

I'm going to throw my $.02 in and side with Tom. I think that most of the stock mounts that are getting replaced are going to be somewhat squashed by the time they are removed. I know mine was pretty trashed by the time I replaced it. I also think that the vibration will increase somwhat with the new mounts, becauses the transmission is now actually, solidly connected to the car.

The new one should have the bolt they supply screw into the mount then they should supply a nut to hold the bolt onto the crossmember. I wondered this same thing when I swapped mine. I know I also had to widen the slot in the crossmember a little to fit the new bolt that came with the mount.
