front end noise
:
i recently installed tubular a-arms with nylon bushings....put the coil isolators on top of the springs, but didn't do anything with the bottom part as stock..now i get all this creaking, banging, and cracking coming from the front end! i'm sure it's because the lower part of the coils are reacting with the steel spring pockets when ever the suspension reacts. have any of you out there experienced this? i could put isolators on the bottom, but wouldn't that raise the front end too much? would just a sheet of perelli rubber tile do the trick...i don't want to keep doing the a-arm job over and over again. i'd love to hear your experiences.....

i did lube the bushings, but only tightened them with the car on the lift. is this the problem?why would this cause the noise? i tell you it sounds like banging, and twanging...and it's coming from both sides...this leads me to think it's the undampened spring perches....but i've never heard of anyone with that problem. people put tubular a-arms on their '57 chevy's all the time without isolators! Yeh i know i was told it will want to bind to much if u tighten them when its in the air. Cause the control arms are down and if u thighten them when there down they wont want to go up all the way.I tightened mine when the weight of the car was on them i jacked it in the air and put ramps under the front and the back so it was level. Its hard to get the torque wrench in there but i did it.

it's sitting pretty much normal now. after sleeping on it,,is it possible that the bolts tying the k-member to the subframe are loose? it just sounds like something is loose and banging around..the coils are a guess 'cause the noise comes from both sides..it just makes sense that it's the coils..there was no noise with the old a-arms. FYI...the noise ended up being the front coil rubbing against the spring perches on the after-market A-Arms! they just needed isolators or some sort of cushioning. Thread
