HELP!! I don't want to ruin my nose!
Alright, I had new lowering springs put in along with the new struts and sway. I love the way she sits but the front is a wee bit too low. I need to get about .25 to .50 inch lift back into it. My cousin has an 80 Z28 that had the same problem. He said he put these little devices in between one coil on each spring in the front end to raise it slightly. Problem is he can't remember what the heck they're called only that they are adjustable. He said all he had to do was raise the car and let the front end drop, install and lower her back down. BINGO! No more scraping the dam on the driveway. I'm picking the ride up on the 19th from the paint shop and want to install these before I even pull her out of their drive. Can someone tell me what these are and where to get them? Without knowing what they are called I'm having a tough time doing a search.

if you didn't replace them when you did the springs, new spring isolators may just give you the extra .5"

It's the same thing that NASCAR uses for little ride height changes. It will also stiffen that spring up a little. So if you installed more than one or two on a spring then it might get a little rough. I can't remember the name of them, but go to : http://www.nascar.com and see if you can't read something about the suspension setup on the stock cars.

Has them in the 3/4 inch and 1 inch variety. It looks pretty simple. I ordered the 3/4's. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

Sounds like the metal spring locks I had on my rear springs, before I installed air shocks. They were fun; two u-shaped pieces of steel, connected by two bolts and two nuts. As you "loosened" the nuts, the u-shaped pieces would expand, and raise the car up. Not bad for $6/set!
And every time I hit a large bump, the spacers would move along the spring. Eventually, both spacers would be on the same side!
That would make a horrible "twang" noise when I hit any bump, probably because the spring was distorting itself.
I remember one "hump" in the road. After hitting it, I started hearing that horrible twang. Got home, removed a rear tire, and found that one of the spring spacers was missing; it must've flown out.
You sure you want to use 'em?

Nope. I went with the rubber insert. It's grooved on both sides and goes all the way around one "loop". Should raise me back up about 3/4 of an inch. I figured the rubber would be good because it will still give a little and won't be noisy. I'll try these first. I'm guessing the shop didn't put new isolators in when they put the new springs in but I never asked. Can't blame them. I'm not dropping them to put new isolators in just to get another wheel alignment done. Not happening.

You may want to put in some suspension that won't cause your car to nosedive as much. I had monroe sensatracks in my car and they were crap, everytime I braked the nose would dive and the air deflector would scrape. I put in some kyb-gr2's and they are a world of difference, sure the car isn't any higher, but due to the design of the struts, "nose diving" under light braking is dramatically reduced.

what you havent figured out how to drive a lowered car yet just remember potholes, manhole covers, speedbumps, curbs, driveways,drain gates, dips, small animals will rip the bottom off a lowered car i cant even go out the exit at school cause the speed bumps are too big i have to sneak threw the aisles without the bumps then go out the entrance its a pain but what can u do?
