header/SFC compatability issues.
Hi guys I am looking into buying some SFC's for my ride but I need to figure out what SFC's are header compatable, I have heard stories of people have problems when installing headers because of thier SFC's so I'm looking to avoid that problem by asking if anyone can recommend a set of SFC's what are problem free.
I am looking to spend no more than about 160, prefferably bolt on/weld on so I can botl them on first then weld them later in time, if there is sucha thing.
the more inexpensive the better
thanks.

Get the Spohn tubular ones, they are probably going to be the best for clearance. I've got the boxed ones on my car and an SLP y-pipe and I come pretty close but it does clear. The new tubular ones are supposed to be 'guaranteed to clear'.
How long have you owned a 3rd Gen??? For your infomation NOTHING is a direct FIT on these cars. Every car is different as they age. So I will say again NOTHING is a direct Fit...

I have owned 3 camaro's in the past 2 years, it's obviouse cars age, and thats not my question. My question was what SFC has the best header clearance and if there are any bolt/weld on sfc's.
nothing more nothing less.
nothing more nothing less.
Alright some info, I have installed Spohn SFC's and have Slp 1 3/4
headers, Catco cat and 3" Slp catback exhaust. Only problem was the heat shield had to removed from the cat for clearance. This was stated in the installation instructions from Spohn.
Nothing more & Nothing less..

The only reason I could see a problem with header clearance would be if the headers were long tubes.
And with a "stock" configuration header/y-pipe, the only reason I could see a problem is if you get SFC that run the full length of the rocker panels and cut across eveything.
I personally am running the following:
1 3/4" SLP header / Y-pipe
3" Random Technologies Cat
3" SLP Catback system
Alston Group SFC
I had NO clearance problems. Not even with the Cat. As a matter of fact, I was pretty impressed with the amout of clearance left over.
You can pretty much weld on any bolt-on SFC. I prefer bolt on first, that way the SFC can seat, fit right, and then you have the option to weld them on later. Once you weld, not a lot of chance to adjust anything, if need be.
Good luck!!

thats exactly why I want bolt on, so I can make sure everything is ok and everything clears before I weld them on, I just want ot be reasured they can be welded later in time.
can anyone recommend a good bolt on sfc that I can weld later?

There are absolutely no header interference problems with SFC's, they do not run even close to each other. The only problems that might occur are with the exhaust pipe, or y-pipe, off the headers. I have CE bolton and hedman hedders and y-pipe, it fits without any problems.

DJP87Z28 and you other guys running Spohn SFCs and SLP headers:
Are the SFCs boxed or tubular and are your headers 1 3/4" or 1 5/8" ??? From what I understand, you CANNOT use Spohn BOXED SFCs with the SLPs without modding one or the other in the Y-pipe area, and this is why I'm selling my boxed SFCs. I just got my SLPs back from Jet Hot and I am NOT going to mess those babies up. If this is untrue, PLEASE let me know...I'd like to keep my SFCs but I currently have them for sale and need to know what to do..
Thanks for the help.

I have the Spohn Tube type SFC's and SLP 1 3/4 headers and no
problem with the Y- pipe just the heat shield on the Cat had to be removed, otherwise no problems. Been on since Oct 02 and really tightened the car up.

Back when I got the Spohn SFCs they offered two kinds, one for standard cars and one for cars with an SLP y-pipe. THe one for the y-pipe has a notch out of it on the passenger side to clear the y-pipe. There are no clearance issues there. The clearance issues are on the cat and the crossmember of the SFC, but as mentioned above if you remove the heat sheild from the cat there should be no issues.

Edelbrock TES #6872 headers with SSM connectors here. Only problem was the 3" y pipe hitting the front end of the pass. side connector. Cutting a notch solved everything. This seems to be the norm when using sfc that run behind the rocker panels.
