Air Ride System

Does anyone here have airbags on their car? I was thinking of putting them on mine but I wasn't sure how good of quality the ride was or how hard it is to install. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

do a search in case you haven't....there is at least one member on here with them.

as far as the ride i like them in trucks and even on some of the newer luxury vehicles. i have yet to ride in a camaro with one but i do know that hydraulics (which are completely different) are terrible for ride in all vehicles especially camaros.

i've been considering changing over my self since the car is becoming more of a cruiser now. there are companies finally making strut bags as well as independent air bags so the products are there to easily complete the kit yet i have no idea if a company offers an actually 82-92 thirdgen kit.

theyre pretty easy to install. nothing complicated or anything. just kind of depends what kind of ride you can tolerate. say youre going over a speedbump, youll definitely be able to tell which end has the air bags in them. its really kind of hard to describe the ride quality, you just kind of have to experience it.

Im thinking of installing them on my Firebird, i got a friend at school that owns a shope that does it. He says, for my 2200lb bags in the rear for antisquating, and same for front for firmer handling, he has 1500s on his 1930 chevy that he built from the ground up, sits low enough that it cant go over an m&m, and runs a mildly built 454.

He says the ride is much smother than most stock set ups, even on newer cars. Only thing he wasnt sure on was if it was a good way to go on a sports car, would it handle firm enough, would it do alot of body roll, he wasnt sure, only one way to find out is to do it.

If the setup is done properly, it rides great!!

Done porly, well, you get what you pay for.

No need for for more then 1500 in the rear, and MAYBE 1600 up front with a v8.

I've got 2500 lb bags in the rear of my car. They were pretty easy to install. I fabbed up my own brackets, pulled the springs out and stuck them right in. It rides a lot better now but I was riding on some pretty stiff 2" drop springs so anything would have been better than that. I have the front brackets done too but I don't have them in yet. The way to get around the body roll is to separate valves for each air bag so you have front, back and side to side control.

Sorry, no pictures right now. I didn't take any while I installed them and I haven't gotten around to it yet. Now the car is in the body shop for new paint so it may be a while before I get them.

There are a couple other guys on here that have done this and there are some good pictures. Do a search for them.
