everybody is always looking for ways to stiffen up their car on a budget. how about if people start posting pics that are very clear on your mod you have done to stiffen up your car. one thing I plan on making is a motor mount that will bolt to the drivers side head and also act as a mount for my power steering pump. this bracket will bolt to an angle bracket that will be welded to the frame of the car. I have some material (6061 T6 Aluminum) on order so just waing to get it then after I make it I'll post a pick of it.

weld all the seams of the car

add a 2nd tubular brace inside the door, one end near the hinge, on the other end, put a plate and add a 2nd striker bolt. if yuo look at 4thgens, they do this stock....


subframes, wonderbar, STB, obviously.

theres teh brace that goes between the rear shocks to stiffen that


theres a brace you can add under the back of the A arms.

a good 2.8 made a brace that goes between the frame rails up front... but it only fits V6 cars


im going to weld my factory vert bracing on... its only rivited on in stock form.

I assume the relocation brackets are so you could put wider tires on the back of your car, is this correct? if not then what is the reason for them??

 

thats not why.

when you lower the car, it throws the geometry off for the lower control arm...... and you get wheel hop when you try to launch..

the bracket lets you mount the arms at a lower point, fixing the problem.

 

My next reinforcement project- Adding plates to the upper PHR bracket and reinforcing/or fabbing new PHR brace. I can't just box the brace, My car sits too low and the PHR rides inside the brace boundries on the right side.

Nice Hunter, that is simular to what I had discribed in a previous post about a year ago. The omnly difference was I talked about doing the x -brace from the back support plate area down to the floorboard plates and running coilovers- I just don't want to loose my rear set- this will retain being a street car. Very nice.

 

custom cage I assume?? that really is nice, very proffesional looking. I have an 8 point in my car but yours makes mine look like a couple of tooth picks mocked up compared to your setup. what class do you plan to race???

 

The cage is custom - yes. I could run SCCA GT or Production classes if I wanted to with that cage - or pretty much anything for that matter. Showroom stock is out of the question though It is overbuilt, but that is the way I wanted it. There are actually more tubes in than are shown in the picture as that was taken while it was still under construction. The difference in structural rigidity is amazing - and I already had Spohn gen1 subframe connectors - which the cage is of course tied directly into.

As far as coilovers - well I considered that - but I decided to go with weight jacks instead. You can see them in the picture - tied directly into the rear. As the car sits now the rear spring mounting point IS the cage - as is the rear trailing arm mounting point. I can run any spring rate I want and adjust the ride height and corner weights with a 1/2" ratchet just by opening the hatch.

Front weight jacks this winter, and maybe a few other "little things" while I am at it

 

Having driven Karl's car about a week ago at a Ahemmmm.... Solo II event. ...on the new slicks....all I can say is that it certainly made me stiff

Mind you...would be even more fun if he had MY motor in the car....

 

I run tpis shocks and struts, eibach springs,spohn torque arm, Lca's and relocation brackets, panhard, ssm subframes, jamex stb.

What is the thing on the far left of the picture that I put an arrow to in the pic below?

 

Its a weight jacker- it is used to set higher/lower corner loads- by spinning up or down individual spring loads on tire/chassis setting- its very complicated to explain without a novel.

 

A weight-jack it is.

Of course in that picture the screw is installed upside down just for fitment - that large thing at the top is the spring perch. The weight jacks are integrated with the cage. By adjusting the screw up or down the ride height can be adjusted as well as the corner weights.

 

in reference to a post above about welding things together...

im getting a wonderbar from tds sometime or another...

im just gonna bolt in on thats all, i may need new bushings but i arent getting them yet,

my questions is, can i and would it help that much if i were to have the bar welded on?

this will be my first mod to my suspension that is a deviation from stock equipment, my struts are new gm parts and same with the end links on the sway bar up front(i think they are end links)
