Anyone running BFG drag radials on the street?

Anyone? I still don't know what tires I should get for my rears, I was gonna get Eagle F1 GSD3's for xmas, now i hear bad things about them, i want straight line traction, dont' care about rain or snow, but the car is a daily driver.

How many miles are those BFG DRs good for? I've heard real good things about how they hook, I'd probably get 255/50/16 to put on my 16" irocs.

Friend of mine has been running them on his car for a long time. They're just about warn out, 1 more time to the track and they'd be done. Dunno how many miles he's put on them but they've survived a couple of burnout contests and numerous trips down the track plus quite a bit of street driving. Just don't drive with them in the rain, it's scary chit lol.

I would recomend the Nitto drag radials. I've driven them in the rain and and snow and they do just fine. I've been to the track and put down 1.8 60' on a stock suspension with the Nittos. I've got atleast 20,000 mile on them and they have plenty of tread left. Now the BFG drag radials aren't to good in the rain. My brother had some BFGs on his Trans Am and he lost control in the rain with those tires. He did a complete 360 just cruising in the rain. It hydroplaned and the rearend kicked out. The Nittos tread is better for the rain and they perform just as good at the track if not better than the BFGs in my opinion.

You'll want the Nitto555R's... make sure they have the R! The Nitto555 regulars don't do so well as a street tire, but the 555R's do great. We have a guy in the club who's running a 9.99 (LS1) and he had done several track passes and 10,000 miles daily driving and they (555R's) still had about 50% tread. Great tire.

i'm happy with mine although they are 18's. i've driven them in the rain but i can't go much faster then 40 mph without some problems. overall on the street they are great but i definately would put any dr on a car that is a daily driver anyhow. just get a nice y rated tire if your looking for performance. my toyo proxies t1sc y's work great in the rain and on the street, but they definately aren't as nice at the track.

Not more than 40 mph, how come? I've been 70mph in the rain with my Nittos with no problems. I've been in some serious down pours with no problems. Maybe because you have 18's and I got 16's.

If you want a DR get a Nitto. If you want the best traction in a street tire and don't care about the rain traction, get an ET Street. I run on the street with those and they have a ton of life left. I also go to the track a LOT and I should get at least 2 more seasons out of them. The key to making them last is how you drive on the street. I very rarely burn the tires on dry pavement. Oh yeah, in case you think the ET's are lasting because my car is slow..I ran high 11's with 60 ft times in the low 1.70's high 1.60's

nitto is nice but not the best....i ran those 60's with 18's on my bfg's. with all seriousness both are pretty decent, nitto is bfg but with a different name for other marketing purposes so either way it would come down to price for me. nitto actually uses the older bfg molds and some that aren't used with bfg but test designed if it matters. they both have their ups and downs.

i have heard people running nitto last a little longer then bfg on the street but there are also more people running nitto. it's a much cheaper tire comparing the two. i more then likely would have went with nitto myself but the only 18 they made was way to wide for my rim.

as far as 40 mph.....sure i could have gone alot faster but that was as fast as i could go trying to swing the rear out and not doing so. the tread pattern on the 18" bfg is terrible for water. can't complain about track performance though as i myself was pulling some great 60' beating out many 16" dr and some et street guys. fastest i've seen the 18" bfg was a 1.4 which isn't too bad for an 18.

either way like i had said i wouldn't run them on a daily driver. you can get street tires that perform pretty decent at the track for your occasional passes. i bought them because pulling 3.0 60' on my old 18" tires wasn't fun....

Are you sure about the BFG and Nitto being the same? They are completely different designs. The tread design and the compound are diff. even the bead of the tire is different with the Nittos using a rim guard.
By the way what kind of times are you running if your pulling 1.4 60's. I don't think I've seen that on 18s.

If your gonna drive in the rain at all drag radials are the way to go.I've never used to Nitto's but have heard good things about them.I've used the BFG ones before(255/50/16)and they were very good on the road and in the rain, not too shabby at the track too.

If your not gonna drive in the rain at all I'd get ET Streets.I've been running them as my only tire for the last 2 years and go through about 1 set a year.My current set is just about finished and they have about 10,000 street miles(maybe more)and 93 10 second passes on them still hooking great. My best 60ft with them was just this past Sat with a 1.476(3550# car w/3.08 gears )

i agree with steve which is what i would have done but i want to run at least 18's so i'm stuck with dr's. since i'm not driving a ford lightning i'm stuck with bfg for now.

Z28z, if you read my last post it said i've seen them pull that low. of course that was on a c5 vette running low 11's but the point is they can do that which is pretty good on an 18. the quickest i've pulled out of mine was 1.7 i believe which i was very happy since my street rated toyos were pulling 2.8-3.0 60's at the track. on the street the toyo's work great....just something about working with the compound i guess. to someone like myself it's worth a slower 60' to have larger wheels. if it's possible to pull a 1.4 or lower on an 18 i'm more then happy with that.

alot of the companies are all tied together believe it or not. a good example was bfg who just sent me my sponsor decals for my dr's. they sent them in a michelin corporate folder??? as far as nitto though, thats what they do. i would pick the tire you like the best that gives you the best price.

Well I'm pretty sure the 555Rs and BFGs are about the same price 150$ a peice, so I was just wondering if either one was going to give me better traction at the drag strip and which woudl last longer on a daily driver.

Thnx for the info I appreciate the feedback.

I think Jegs has the 245/50/16 for like 143$ a peice or something in my most recent catalog.

sounds about right...

those of you strapping for cash that race enough to warrant them might want to hit up nitto. bfg seems to be really big on pushing discounts you might persuade nitto to do the same. if you had an import it would be easy but you never know.
