Torque Arm?

id like to put some money into my rear suspension. LCAs, Reloc kit, PHB and an air bag are a must. my car will be in the 13s, and im wondering is an aftermarket torque arm really worth the money? or is my car not puttin out enough power yet to really take advantage of one. im asking because i dont want to spend 300-400 dollars on a torque arm to get nuthin from it. if the strength of the factory one is the issue, edelbrock sells a non adjustable tubular one for 200 that might better suit me. id like to hear some facts on this

"Strength" as such isn't the issue. The problem with the stock one is that it flexes; and like any other suspension part that unintentionally stores energy, it makes the whole system act unpredictably. The harder the car tries to hook up, the more the torque arm will bend; the more it will alow other suspension parts to move out of their ideal position; and the harder it will be to make it behave the same every time.

I'd recommend trying the other things, and see if they make the car stable and predictable enough for you. If they don't, then revisit the torque arm possibility. It's not something that depends on the other parts, or that those other things depend on either. You can always add it later.

yeah i total agree with RB83L69

flex was one thing i could feel with the stock stuff and after changing everything in the rear suspension flex it basically total gone.

the rear end basically just goes up and down now instead of wheel hopping and side to side as well.

i definitely put more power to the ground now, but still my tires cant hold wot in drive from a stop, so i am looking into drag radials for near years racing.

Yeah, My last 7 passes with the flimsy stamped steel piece was unpredictable.

10.90 streetcar.....yours is a freak car...lol

good times....not sure about that torque arm....i would like to try different pinion angles, that's the only thing i could see you wanting one for .....might pick up time, might not do a thing. but congrats on your times.

I think the large soft slicks are responsible for the short times. In 10.90's case the FLEXING might just increase traction. If it absorbs the shock from the launch it might work better in his case. I really don't know. but i don't think weight transfer is as much of an issue with the drag tires. My personal interest in upgrading my torque arm if from handling and predicatability standpoint

LOL, I agree!! Tell that to all the guys I put on the trailer this year with my flexible non-consistent torque arm. Believe me, all the money I took home this year coulda bought some really nice arms, but if it aint broke why fix it. At the world series and nationals with the DA changing I had either a 13.05 or .06 dial for three days straight. Way inconsistent IMO
