E-brake might as well not be there on 89 PBR setup
I think the title says it all. I can sit there and pull up on the handle with all my might, and the car will still roll on level ground D. My 86 was firmly planted with the ebrake engaged. Is there a way to remedy this? I was under the impression these utilize a "self-adjusting" cable tensioner? Can I at least get it to hold the car on a hill? Thanks fellas

Sounds like your calipers are frozen on their sliders.
Mine hold the car on a pretty steep rearwards incline with very little tension on the handle. Yours should do the same if they're working right.

Have you tried getting in the tranny tunnel and adjusting the tensioner? It looks like this. My '89 PBRs hold mine just fine. You may indeed need to rebuild your calipers if this doesn't help. By the way, these brakes do NOT self adjust.

I distinctly remember reading somewhere that the tensior on the ebrakes IS self-adjusting. Can anyone shed some light on this??

Looking at mine, they don't look self-adjusting to me. But I could be wrong.
Have you taken the calipers off and checked to make sure they slide freely on the slides yet?

First off, the PBRs don't adjust themsleves. Second, I forgot a part of this. There's also an adjusting screw in the caliper itself that MAY need to be adjusted to get the piston to hit the pad squarely.
Here's the link to what has been posted by me already with pics too. Read it through and see if it helps any. It should. I searched for "e-brake" and user ebmiller88 in the Brake forum:

Hello Ed. I'm glad I looked up your old post on how to remedy the ebrake problem with pbr's. I haven't tried adjusting the little allen screw yet. I read about how to adjust everything in my repair manual, but the lack of pictures and a detailed explanation make it hard to understand how everything actually works. I tried adjusting the two nuts on the piece in the tranny tunnel. In fact, I turned it way in. The pads hold nice and tight on the passenger side, but the driver's side can still turn when you put it in drive with the ebrake engaged. You can also see where the ebrake lever on the passenger side isn't extended very far, but it's way extended on the driver's side caliper. If the allen screw adjustment doesn't fix this, the only other thing I can figure is maybe the actuating collar on the driver side caliper is stuck or not working right for some reason. The allen screw thing seems to make sense though, because it looks like the ebrake pushrod is just pushing one side of the brake pad forward, and not doing it nice and parallel. Have to give that a try once some of the damn snow melts around here!

The cars with the rear drum brakes are self adjusting, however the cars with the rear disc brakes are not. Norcalz28, if you need the information for adjusting your rear brakes, I have the GM (not haynes or chilton) service manual for the 1989 camaros and can e-mail you the info.
