Need help with backspacing

I am having a set of 19" wheel blanks made for me, which I will then machine the rest of the wheel myself. I'm going to run an 8" wide wheel front and rear, and I want them to have the same backspacing. I'm currently running ROH ZS wheels that are 8.5" wide with 4.5" of backspacing. I've searched through a lot of posts and it looks like most people running aftermarket 8" wide wheels are using 4.5" backspacing. But, I talked to someone at SLP about the new ZR1 wheels for thirdgens and they run 5.5" of backspacing for an 8" wide wheel. I don't want the wheels to stick out at all, and if they sit in a little more then my current wheels that will be ok because my rear wheels come real close to my fender lip when I let my Air-Ride down. What do you guys suggest for backspacing? Thanks for your help.

sent you a pm....

just for reference i'm running 4.75 18x8 front and 6.75 18x10 rear. with the cars hub offsets at 0 front and +16 rear. all of this keeps the wheels in the correct stock placement which would allow you to set the frame on the ground if necessary.

so how about details on that airride.....

Airstruts are coming out very soon- However, I would never run this crap on the front of my Camaro. I do run a custom Airbag setup on my work truck that bumps load capacity from 1400# to over 6000#- but I have also extensively beefed up the frame with tubing. http://www.airride.com/productinfo/airstrut.asp

just noticed this again....

whatever happened? all of these guys claiming they have things and never commenting back. this is the 4th member in 6 months to come on the site with a custom car and unique mods only to disappear???

vsixtoy, too bad you think all the cool things are a waste of time....i love my air struts with the qa1's. even though they are 12 way i think the valving on the bilsteins were better but the ride and adjustment is amazing out of them.

Kandied, I realize you have since added them to your car since this was posted months back. I don't mean to offend anyone by what I said so let me please clarify.

I own two vehiles with "air" type assisted suspension. One a '89 Chev truck, the other a '77 El Camino. When I pump up the airide without a load on either of them, they ride like crap. The air setups are only there to handle weight loads. The truck is a very sophisticated setup that even has separate cockpit shockvalving controls to adjust bump/rebound setting similtaniously based on load capacities and or desired performance use (this truck does perform quite suprisingly to most in the handling department). The airbag setup when utilized (separated rear setup, so NO side to side air transfer) causes a pendulum affect to the truck around corners- the truck just bobbles everywhere. I let it out completely and everything is great.

Its obvious that I value handling on any vehicle I drive- especially the Camaro, I built this specifically for cornering. With my experience on suspension geometry and my individual experience on the airbag setups I have, I would never run them on the Camaro- It would hurt my cornering performance.

Your truck handles like crap with air in the bags because you also have steel springs. My S10 is bagged and corners better than it ever did with leaf springs. There is nothing about air suspension that precludes their use in handling vehicles. You just have to set it up properly.
