Disc Brakes

Disc Brakes
Alright, this is probably a stupid question. , but.....I just swapped in a 9 bolt disc brake rear from a 10 bolt drum rear. My question is, the 9 bolt rear had the brakes off of it when I bought it and now I'm installing them, but the driver side caliper is to the back side and the passenger side only fits to the front side. Is this correct or do I need to find another backing plate for the other side? As I look at the backing plates, they are exactly the same piece.

Nope, all is well. Your 9 bolt is a '88 and earlier rear and has the leading/trailing caliper setup...one is forward and one is backwards. They did it to use the same backing plate, which is what you have. The '89-up 9 bolts will have both PBR calipers trailing.

yup. its a cost cutting measure GM did back then.... alot of cars are like that.
this way, theres only one caliper, and one bracket.

Just so you know beforehand, those older style brakes are the "bad" ones to have. They are prone to sticking and not working properly. There are 2 fixes to them: Install the recall kit from GM (Search for "recall kit"), or upgrade them to the '89-97 1LE/LT1 style PBR rear disc brakes that work great.

yup, ed is right. BTW ed, i got my calipers and rotors from NAPA today and shall be ordering the lines from classic tube shortly. the cradles you sent are correct, they just looked funny without the caliper on them. they were gonna charge me 84 bucks per caliper on the core charge, lol thank *** they couldn't tell the difference between my 85 calipers and the 92 calipers i bought
heres a weird question for you, ed. the right side caliper has a bracket that the e brake cable fits into (obviously because its bigger then the left) but the left doesn't have that bracket. what does the left side E cable fit attach to? i have no idea if the OE backing plates had a slot or not since i have the backing plates you sent me for the PBR swap. i'm going to have the brake tech from the shop take a look at them anyhow, just figured i'd ask you since your the PBR vett on these boards
