89 IROC Brakes

How would I be able to tell if my 89 IROC convertible has 1LE on it or not? I read about 1LE cars being produced so it would lead me to believe I don't have it but some trans ams have them so i'm curious. Thanks for your help.

You've got a 'Vert...no 1LE for you. It's easy to upgrade to 1LE or other systems though, just search for "brake upgrade".

yeah i read all that stuff but when i'm ready to sell the car i want to return it to as stock as possible, so i dont really want to start cutting my axles.....i'm lookin right now for some cheap axles...anyone know where i might be able to find them so that i may change my car for rear discs then when i'm ready to sell the car, reinstall the old drum and axles?

Who said you have to cut your axles? To fit rear discs over your drum axles? Oh no, no...all you have to do is buy rear rotors for a '93-97 F body and they'll fit right in there, no axle mods required.

BUT!

To install the rear disc backing plates, you'll have to mod your current drum axle flange as seen here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/t...reardisc.shtml

And then you can't reinstall the drums. Here's what I'd do: Look for a disc rear and just install the whole damn thing, and save your stock rear to reinstall later on, it's cheaper in the long run.

Another rear? Search the classisfieds...although 3rd gen disc rears are hard to come by, drum rears with good ratios turn up fairly often. You can drive on your current rear until you get the brakes swapped over on a drum rear. Disc rears do show up though, just keep looking. Ebay is a good source but the rears really need to be close to you to make them a good deal.

I stumbled across this 3.27 9 bolt on Ebay and it's being sold my TGO member Denny who runs Third Gen Ranch:

You have the rears if your car has the 89 BW 9-bolt rear. check picture. But sorry, only the standard front 10.5 disc's.
