If you made the 4th gen rear end swap...

For those of you that have made the swap from 3rd to 4th gen rear ends, How do you like the change? Would you reccomend it for the rest of us? Any certain years better than others? And will the Eilbach sportlines I just bought fit with the new 4th gen rear end? I see where the sway bar, LCA's and panhard bar fit, Correct? I did the search and still have some unanswered questions. Thanks.......

All the same 10-Bolts 3rd & 4th gen. Just your choice in finding one with the ratio you want. And can you live with the increased overall width of 4" on the 4th gen rear.

I just blew my differential to pieces today and am looking to get a 4th gen rear as well. I want disc brakes and shorter gears (3.23-3.42)!!!

Its basically a direct swap, no?

A direct swap, except for minor items. Brake lines & new wheels would be at the top. But do a search on the subject, a lot of info on it.

No, 4" overall length or 2" per side. Not what you thought. for a 4Th gen rear.

I got mine for free.
Well, actually, I had to help take it off and put another one on the car this came off of, but no money out of my pocket.

I am in the process of putting in my 98 rear now. Came inside to try to find info on how the pads/calipers go together. Wish I would have got a book, or looked at a car that was together!! The original question asked is there a better year? Well, 98 and newer has a parking brake that uses a drum inside the rotor, and the rotor is also 13". I have been having problems finding anyone that actually stocks parts for this rear end, including dealers. So I am guessing that there are very few problems with the setup. As opposed to the parking brake being part of the caliper on 97 and older. I know those have always had issues one way or another!! Hope this helps.
