BAD rear end noise

I have an 89 Trans am with a good 406 and a Moser 3:73 12 bolt with all the tricks...LCA's, tubular bars, Spaun torque arm etc.. The rear end noise is SO bad that I cannot stand to drive it. Took the gears out and sent them back to Moser. They replaced them but it didn't help. Send them back to Richmond and had the same results. They all say that when you use the tubular bars, torque arms hooked to a welding cross frame and all polyurathane bushings, that the noise can't be helped. Has anybody out there found anything that helps. It's REAL bad and with 3 different gear sets it has never changed at all.

I guess you could make sure that you are setting the gears correctly, but..

Richmond gears are loud.

Turn the stereo up.

Honestly I don't remember. I set it originally to specs and then reset it once to see if it made a difference. It didn't. With 2" lowering springs, what is the suggested pinion angle?

Shouldn't be "that" bad. Does your pattern favour the toe or the heal? You try any different lubes?

the wear pattern has been perfect every time. they say the noise runs up the torque arm and amplifies. I just can't see other people putting up with this but I 'm tired of working on it. I've run Super Gas for 15 years so I am familiar with working on high performance cars but I have never run into this.

How much pinion angle do you guys run? I ran my car last week and with the 305/40/16 cheater type slicks, I could not get hooked up at all. I ran 12:44 at 113 mph but spun big time. I spun to the point of having to feather the throttle. I am not familiar with the adjustments necessary to make these cars hook.

Hi! i have this torque arm you speak of i had all that slamming and bucking noise i have fixed it....What i done was took a 400 lb. impact gun and tightened the rear spherical rod end to the limit (about 4-6 seconds on the button) and it stoped all the noise and drove smoothly...I hope this helps you

my noise isn't slamming or bumping. Mine sounds like 2 gears grinding together and killing each other. jddani@aol.com

Re: BAD rear end noise

Put the factory 9 bolt back in and still have the noise. Only happens when you accelerate, totally quits when you let off. Help.
