Help me decide on which subframe conectors to get!!

Ok, I did a few searches and came up with some good info but I am still unsure. The main problem that I have is a mixture of uses the car is intended for. For example, it will be a daily driver, but will see lots of track time. It's gonna have 475 HP so the chassis needs to be strong. I will be running a 4 inch exhaust(Mufflex) and I will have the car lowered with a Pro Kit(due to the long tube headers) so I need to have some clearance. The TQ arm will be an aftermarket unit to take the stress off of the T5 tailshaft housing. On the street I will be running 17x9.5 front and 17x11rear with 285\40\17 front and 295\35\17 rear. At the track it will get Weld Pro Stars with a 10 inch slick on the back and a 5 incher up front. I was originally going to go with the S&W racecars design, but after reading some posts it might not be the best way to go. I do need to stress this, I AM AN OVERKILL NUT!!! I do not mind spending top dollar on a set up SFC's, and if I have to buy 2 different sets to get what I am needing then so be it. So please don't hold anything back Hit me up with everything! Thanks guys, Paul Moore

For the most clearance go with Spohn. But with all that stuff you'll have under there you may need to go custom.

Well, that's what I wasn't sure about. I could run the Spohn's and have some peremiter stiffening especially when you tack weld the body seam to it. But, I also want some way to connect the lower control arm mount in the rear to the front subframe. As we all know, under acceleration, the rear end pushes the control arms into the chassis. With subframes that connect the LCA mount to the front subframe, you are limiting the amount of flex caused under heavy acceleration. That's my problem. If it was just a street car that only saw twists and turns, then yeah Spohn's for sure. But since it will see the strip with sticky tires, I need some straight line protection as well. Hmm I wonder if both the S&W and Spohn's will fit at the same time???

spohn's do go from the rear subframe by the LCAs and up to the front subframe. they also Y off and attach to the frame around where the tranny is.....

Right... they go from front to rear. Alston won't go near as far, I have both on two different cars. I've posted pics of the Spohns on here before...link:

ebmiller, let me ask you something. Now that I have seen your pic in the link you gave(thanks for that by the way) I can see that the Spohns DO attatch to the LCA boxes. So, here is what I was thinking, use the S&W connectors set cause it also attatches to the LCA box area, but the part that goes to the LCA kinda slips over the factory metal. So install the S&W, and then the Spohn units can be installed OVER the S&W part(where it attaches to the LCA area) That way, I would essentailly have 2 seperate subframe connectors, a perimeter style, and a front subframe to rear LCA style. That would work, right?

That's way overkill

are you seriously setting up the car for road racing or building a 800hp engine?

Either of those require a cage anyway and that they would also be the only reason to do something like that if you didn't have a cage.

That is what I am going to do...I already have the S&Ws.

you are overlooking the side branches of the S&Ws, either the Spohns would have to be cut and/or notched to fit around the S&W tube OR you could cut the S&W tube and slip in the whole Spohn tube.

Also it seems as though the Spohns have a hole in the rear LCA flange thing for the rear LCA bolt to go through, you would have to cut that off OR get longer rear LCA bolts.

Search my name for posts/threads, the installed pic might still be up on the internet otherwise I could mail you some of mine.

AFAIK, you could install both brands but I've never seen S&W SFCs so I don't know. Overkill yes but you could do it I guess..

Thanks for the link to that post, it's a good pic.

Nightrider: Yes it is overkill, but nothing is too good for my baby. The main problem is that I will have 475HP plus another 150HP shot on top of that. These cars need all the chassis stiffening help they can get. With it being a 'street' car, adding a cage is a very good idea, don't get me wrong, but it really takes away from the 'street' aspect of it. I guess I'm just ****.
