Good tire choice for 15" wheels?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compar...ark=1&x=18&y=9

I went ahead and went to tirerack.com and did a search for 235/60 R15 tire sizes (I assume thats stock, its whats on my Z28 right now, if its not PLEASE correct me) to replace the flattened out rear tires on my car, and the front ones when they get worn down themselves.

Which of them would be the best choice? Is there more than one? lol.

I dont plan on driving a CAMARO in the snow, just dry and wet most of the year. It can get somewhat cold in NC but I dont think getting below freezing is going to turn my tires into ice cubes...

Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance!

P.S. - any SERIOUS reccomendations for performance rims? I'm in it for strength and weight, and tire options - not really caring about looks.

235/60-15 wasnt stock for third gens. They used a tire not as wide stock, but that dont mean you have to.

I run 255/60-15's on the rear
235/60-15's on the front

I tired quite a few brands of tires and for a real street tire IMO the yokohoma avid s/t is about the best.

That's what I have on mine now.

BFG t/a's gave 0 traction, just a good smoke show are all they aregood for IMHO

goodyear's hooked alittle better, but not like the yoko avid's

The yoko avid s/t's bites good off the line for a real street tire, and handles turns/curves great too.

Here's pics of them on my car....

and here's the tires mounted on the wheels, but not on the car yet

Thanks dude!

Are the sidewalls beefy enough to take the weight we throw at them? or do I need to run some negative camber? lol.

Also - you tried the firehawks or the "NASCAR" tires? Supposedly theyre rather good, but I'd rather go with what you HAVE tried, which is the yokohama avids.

The 85 Trans AM I sold about six months ago for my sister called for 235/60/15's on the tire plaquard.

hmm...
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....ExtremeContact

Seems theres a coniextremecontact in 225 60/VR15.

I hear thats a VERY good grippy tire. Would giving up a few mm of width really matter, though? Its good up to 8" wide rims, and 225 mm wide tread is about 8.85826772 inches.

Just throwing it out there for everyone!

Thanks in advance.

215 seems a bit thin, and a 65 ratio makes it taller.

An attempt at better mileage? lol.

The tires on the rear of steve87iroc's car is BFG radial T/A's

I hope he dont mine me answering for him...

Nihilanthic...

That's what I find so great about the yoko avids. As you know ig you have a stiff sidewall tire you loose off the line bite, but gain traction in turns, and if you have a soft sidewall you gain bite off the line, but loose handling.

The avid s/t goes against all that. The side wall is nice and stiff to give good handling, but some how it still hooks off the line.

The goodyears I tired was the eagle's. They now put "nascar" on the sidewall to make them look better and try to get sells up. But it's still the same tire it was 3 years, ago, 5 years ago, etc. Just a goodyear eagle.

I don't race in auto X or anything, but I find my yoko's handles great at all sprinted street driving I do, and the weekend drags. I live out in the country, with alot of curvy back woods roads. I have no prob of keeping my speeds above 90 and about max 115 through those curves.

The curves range from long drawn out curves like the turns on the talladaga, atlanta, and daytona nascar tracks, to very quick sharp turns, to rattle snake turns (S shaped).

I run no fancy suspension just stock 1988 RS camaro suspension with close to 180 K miles on it, these yoko tires on 15" x 8" 78 trans am WS6 snowflake wheels

Hmm..... I'll keep it in mind.

One thing I wanna go with, tho, is my friend and his dad run ContiExtremeContacts on their Cobra and Mach1 (yeah yeah... theyre ford guys but I cant fault the tire for that ) and swear by them.

I found coniextremecontacts in 225 60/VR15. - which would fit my rims.

I'd give up a little width but wouldnt the different compound give me more grip overall?

215/65r15 was the stock size with the 235/60r15 being optional, mostly on H.O. cars.

My 92 Camaro RS calls for 215/65/R15 on it. Well, it also has the wimpy whezer 3.1 V6 and the 700-R4 too. Oh by the way, it has 235/50/R15 's on it at all for corners now.
