Gotta love subframes

Some pics after installing a set of Alston connectors on a friends 86 IROC, might be a little hard to see but even the left rear tire is trying to come off the ground, the pass side is far off the ground all from one jacking point.

Apparently it works pretty well with spohns instead of alstons also. Now I cant wait to install both under my own car.

And I thought my garage was cluttered!

Why are you using a floor jack when you're sitting between the posts of a hoist?

Sometimes between stripping cars, and waiting for customers to pay for motors so I can ship them out it does get a little clusttered..

The cars were on jack stands for the install since its commonly said that the suspension needs to be loaded. And the jack pics are to show how stiff the car really is after the install, mainly with even the drivers rear tire trying to come off the ground with the jack on the passenger rear.

This is backing up on a curb. The car will teeter-totter between the RF and the LR tires. These are Spohn SFC's

Just a side note, You need very stiff springs and swaybars to pull this off on a curb.

Did you have stands under the rear axle and front A arms? I want to install my spohn SFC's this weekend but I too have always been leery of doing it with the car on stands. Did you even have room to crawl under there and weld where you needed to?

Yes, I had room, though I used some large stands and im pretty skinny.

Yes they were supporting the axle and front arms.

I wanna get mine installed soon too. I don't have a welder here though, I'll probably take it to a local Meineke that I've had very good luck with and see if they'll do it for like $40. Do you need to remove the rear LCA bolts to get the back of the SFCs lined up, or no? I haven't fit them up under my car yet, but I saw the holes there that look like the LCA bolt is supposed to go through them. I got these SFCs from someone second-hand (though they weren't used) so I don't have the instructions or anything.

I currently have the MAC's on my vert. Are the Spohn style SFC's better? From the pics above... They must be. My car flexs way more than that. Should I dump the MAC's & get a set of Spohns?

Wouldnt the car need to be on a level surface to weld in sub frame connectors? Wouldn't the chassis just twist if it was on jack stands?

you don't put the chassis on jackstands. you put the suspension on jackstands. ie axle in rear and a-arms in front. This way it loads your suspension just as if it were on the ground.

I dont know if its cause your MAC's might be made of some thinwall tubing, but the alstons are on the blue car and in the pics you can see its just as stiff as the one thats gray in the pictures. Are yours welded in ? If not thats most of your problem, get them welded, the other thing is that if they are welded you cant just remove them, if they arent welded, you could, but I wouldnt, get them welded, you can also add the spohns to your car with the mac set. Im going to be running both the spohn and alstons.

How well do you guys think the Spohns & a 10 point cage would do? That's my plan when money permits...

You arent getting them out if they are welded properly, order the spohns and add them to the mix.

i just went and bought a couple sets of $18 wheel ramps from walmart when I put mine in, of course i could only drive up on one set at a time, had to jack up the other end to put the wheels on, but left me with no worries about everything being level
was hard trying to lay under there sideways and weld, ive got a nice little scar from some molten lava jumping into the arm of my coat.. oops
they rock though, but I have to say, now that the chassis is stiffer, other things have started to loosen up.. you can never win :P
