need suggestions on new tires..brand and price

my 92 rs is in desperate need of some tires.the previous owner put some stingers or something like that on them 235/55/16..and i want to put some wider tires but some thing that does good in the rain..I cant even take off in first without spinning them in the rain or even in fourth gear they break loose(the cars all stock too little 305 at that)..it scares the he11 outta me to drive on the interstate with them in the rain...i was thing some 245/50/16's but if some 255/50/16's would fit that would be great.i justwant some good tires.any suggestions would be great...thanks

If you're on a budget you will not find a better all season tire at a really great price than the Falken Ziex 512. You can get them for $65/tire in 245/50R16 at http://www.edgeracing.com/tire/757/

I have these on two of my cars, including my '92 RS, and they are a great bang for the buck. Keep in mind that the wider you go with a tire the greater the tendancy for them to aquaplane.

I gott hose on my car as well, my 16 inch rims have Goodyear GSC's on'em and they break loose in dry, wet, snow, everything, they're miserable. These Falken Zeix are great, almost never let go in the rain or dry and they're 225's instead of 245's which is what is on my 16 inch rims.

For cheap bang for the buck I got some Sumitomo's on my Formula.

They really bit it when brand new, course they were slick and greasy.

I like them alot more after I got few hundred-1000 miles on them and now I'm wuite happy.

Think a whopping 58$ a piece from Tire Rack and I went there.

Wanted dry/wet great traction cause I have the Ronal rims when I want to play.

I got a set of sumitomo sirxon on the front of my car and they SUCK! I had them on my rear, I would take a slightly sharp curve and the back end would slide out, switch to the falcon's and I can go a lot faster around the same corner, even my crap Goodyears would hold it better. I'd stay away from sumitomo's and stay with falcons.

Found my receipt for the above:

I have Sumitomo HTR H4's

They were $75 a piece.

Like I said at first I wasnt too happy, but after they wore in(tires do take a set and the chemicals react to heat in the first couple hundred miles), they have been a good tire.

I have the BF Goodwrench g-force KDWs. Several people in the TFCBA have them. They are good wet and dry. I've not had them in the snow yet, though. They aren't cheap (about $550 for my 245/50 16s, and the wear isn't that great.

I just bought some Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s in that size for my '91 Formula for $85ea from the Tire Rack. I have them on my '97 Trans-Am also. Great tire for the money and decent in the wet. Predictable when losing grip and that is what counts - I have had them on a road race track in the '97. Not the grippiest tire but long wearing and practical.

I got the Falken Ziex tires on my 91RS in 225/55/16 (cuz they were a damn good deal and i needed them fast) for like 70 a tire from Big-O tires. They are the best damn tires I have ever driven with. The ones before were Uniroyal Tigerpaw 225/60/16 and those were the worst tires. I could not hit the gas pedal without spinning the tires (wet or dry).

I just bought some ZR1 rims and they are comming with Nitto 450's 275/50/17 back and 275/40/17 front. Anybody know if I will have any problems fitting these tires? Thanks in advance.

The Falken Ziex, IIRC, are rated very high, especially when compared to their price.

I have the Kumho Ecsta Supras and love them. They were around $85 each out of Jegs. They have good wet traction, awesome dry traction and are durable. I dragged with them several times last year and had minimal traction issues - just do a good burnout first. The back tires have like-new tread left even after agressive street driving and several 1/4 mile passes.

If it matters, I think they look pretty cool too.

I have the BF KDW's and they suck. they grip the road, but suck at any amount of gas given. they also suck in the rain. I was very very happy with my old Firestone Firehawk Indy tires that were 1/2 the price. Thats what I will be going with next.

look into the fuzion ZRI 245 50 16, Im putting that on in the summer. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....&tireModel=ZRi Read the reviews, many people gave high kudos on the tire. 82$ a tire is pretty cheap, I get them for like 64 because I work at a tire shop. But that is a great dry/wet tire, NOT A SNOW TIRE!!!! Looks nice too I think.

I totally agree. Not perfect, but very nice tires. I'm at about 14,000 miles and almost need to replace, but keep in mind I take corners very aggressively (usually >2x the rated warning for the curve), so that thears the fronts to pieces. On a totally rebuilt suspension, mine were rediculously sticky under all types of weather until about 1/32" ago when they began to suck in rain. Makes sense -- there's not much depth left in the rain channels.

Kumho Ecsta 711s here, at $60 a piece you cant beat the price. I have autocrossed with them and they seem pretty decent. Again, they seem to hook good at autocross but for some reason I can spin them pretty hard, so the rears have taken a beating but they are wearing about as good as I should expect considering the way the car is used. Especially for someone on a budget they are great tires.

I had those on one of my other cars and had the same problem with easily lighting up the rears. The Falken Ziex fixed that problem.

I was thinking about this thread last night driving the Camaro in the rain. With the old tires I had on that car they would spin on wet roads if I just looked the gas pedal hard! I had no trouble in the wet with them last night.

Ziex are even decent in the snow, been having alot of ice and snow and they're pretty good, not nearly as good as a snow tire would be but good enough for me.

Mike, the ones you linked to are only H-rated. Do you ever have problems with traction at higher speeds? They sell the Z's for a few bucks more:
