Bump Steer Kit

My car has had bump wandering problems and I found a - Bump Steer Kit - from Baer for about $140. Does anyone know how to install this & what is the process? Is it something someone with minimal suspension experience could accomplist?

The kit is straitforward.

I doubt you need it.

What else have you done to your car.

Unless the car has alot of suspension travel 4 inch up and 4 inch down from ride height, I doubt you need it.

Your wondering is most likely the result of an alignment problem, or either worn front end parts.

Have someone determine that that is the problem before you spend the money to still have the smae problem.

That's a smart idea. I'll have that done first.

As far as I know the suspension is all stock on my 1985 Z28. The car drives fine and straight when on smooth surfaces going in a straight line, but if the pavement is uneven or if there are any bumps in the road it will wander hard to one side or the other. I have posted this question before and was told to try bushing, bump steer kit, tie rods & an alignment. Why would the car only do the hard wander when going over bumps and uneven pavement and not when on flat ground?

I am thinking about getting some Eibach lowering springs soon. After the springs what needs to be done to the suspenion? Will the struts need replaced as well & will it need an alignment right after it's lowered? What other components should I get to beef up the suspension in the front and in the rear (sway bars, tower braces)?

Thanks for your help!

The car goes stait in a strait line because the caster keeps the wheels pointed in the direction of travel.

The car wonders on bumps because there is slop in the suppension and the bumps take up this slack and change the direction of the tires.

I would believe that you need new tie rod ends and or ball joints.

If your suspension is stock then you have about 20yrs of wear on the parts. Way before buying a bumpsteer kit, I would rebuild the front suspension and steering. Spohn sells a complete kit http://www.spohn.net/product.cfm?productid=1374. If you do some searching there have been quite a few posts with part #'s for Napa steering parts. I would also get new struts/shocks and springs too. This would be a good base to start any further suspension modifications.

I think that you two have probably nailed it. That'll be the kit I get. If I have a shop install this front end kit from Spohn Performance, will they do an alignment too or recommend one?

I guess it all depends on the shop. From my experience if they work on steering components then they usually do alignments as well. I bought that Spohn kit and have been happy with it. Really tightened the front end up from what it was.
