I saw that from the rpo codes

Just curious as to what does "performance" means as far as how it functions.

performance gears are usually referred to as the (3.42&3.73) gearsets in these cars....this gives you more torque increase (acceleration)

while with 2.73's your cruise rpm's will be lower and top speed(theoretically would be higher)

Later in the thirdgen years (87-up), G92 became a performance package. It included G80, upgraded gear ratio (3.23 for 350s 3.42 for 305s for GM rears) oil cooler, and dual cats 89+

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
G92 does not call out for a "specific" ratio, even in the same year; it depends on what car it's being applied to. It's always a higher number (better acceleration at the possible expense of gas mileage) than the "base model" setup. Needless to say, the factory was VERY STINGY about doling it out, given the importance of CAFE.

For example, in some years, it was 3.42 for a TPI 305 5-speed instead of 3.23, and 3.23 for a TPI 350 auto instead of 2.73.

Mine is a 87 roc with the L98. It came with the G80 and J65. Which ment posi and rear disc. But when you add the L98, disc and the posi together it gave you the G92. So mine allready came with the 3:27's standerd. I found this info on the site for 87 year. Adam :-)

G92 (performance axle ratio) available only on IROC-Z with 5.0 TPI (LB9). G92 was available on IROC-Z convertible in 1987. All 1987 350 TPI (B2L) IROC-Z's came standard with the 3.27 BW rear end and everything that was included with G92 but did not have the G92 RPO code because it was mandatory; this changed in 1988 however when a 2.77 BW rear was standard and G92 had to be specified to get the 3.27. All 1987 350 TPI (B2L) IROC-Z's required J65 rear disc brakes, G80 limited slip differential, and KC4 engine oil cooler.

Time does your RPO list J65?To go from the other direction the J65 4 wheel discs required the G80(and when ordered on a Sport Coupe,RS,Berlinetta or LT you had to order the 305).For my '83 the G92 gear is 3.23-LU5/Auto combo(she also has the G80 posi and J65 discs).Like sofakingdom states G92 varied from year to year and depended on what engine was ordered.

Ok. You have a you have a posi(G80) with rear disc(J65) and the performce gear 3:23(G92) insted of the standered 2:73 that you would of got with out having G92. So basicly it list like this.

G80= you get a posi
G92= you get the lower gear ratio of 3:23
J65= rear disc

So you have a very good equeiped rear. Hope that helps. Adam :-)

I agree with charlie.From your RPO list you have all the go-fast and comfort goodies.It's interesting that both RPO's for the 350 are listed - B2L & L98(or does L98 mean this motor has the Vette's aluminum heads - sorry for the off topic question).

nope camaro l98 came with steel heads and cast iron exhust manifolds. I know cause I just did the head gaskets and almost had a herna picking up the heads. lol.

And for B2L and L98.

B2L= PERFORMANCE PACKAGE & ENGINE PACKAGE V8 5.7LPFI
L98= 5.7-LITER V8 TPI ENGINE

That's what I got for mine when I read the codes. Adam :-)

Thankyou Charlie,and Time for shedding light on it.The RPO B2L is the complete pkg then and L98 is listed because that's the separate RPO for the motor itself.Kind of like the "1S" pkgs that combined options.
Iron heads almost call for a hoist by themselves.Ever pickup a set of BB heads?
