Drag racing rear swaybars used on the street.....

Ok, first off I'm a suspension *****. My car will have anything and everything to make the suspension/chassis as tight as I can get it. With that being said, I have been looking into some parts that I want to buy, but ran into a potential issue. I have built the car for dual duty. It will seen mostly street driving but with an occasional trip to the track. On the street, I want the suspension set up stiff, cause I like to take turns fast and I really like having road feedback. Taking it to the track is another story though. I have heard all the horror stories about preloading the passenger side with an airbag and mumbo jumbo about getting the car to hook. I don't want the car twisting like a pretzel either. So, after some research, I found that a large sway bar designed for drag racing can be used in the rear to keep the *** end locked down. Now, I saw a nice rear sway bar and it's made by BMR. Let's see if the pic will load....

Now this is taken right from their site...

Having problems getting your 9 or 10 second car to hook up? Tired of leaving the line sideways? Rear anti-roll bars have been proven to eliminate torque steer and body roll during hard launches and will drastically improve the cars consistency as well as stability going down the track. Because this anti-roll bar is patterned after the stock bar, it will work with any stock or aftermarket rear end housing and will clear all aftermarket exhaust and suspension components. This bar has already seen a 1.28 60 ft/time and is begging for someone to go quicker!
Anti-roll bar features:

Heavy duty 3/16" mounting plates for rearend and frame
Massive 1.25" solid anti-roll bar
Overkill 5/8" chrome moly rod-ends(most kits use either 3/8" or 1/2")
Prothane bushings, silicone grease, and Grade 8 hardware included
Now, a 1.25 inch swaybar comes out to a whopping 31.75 call it 32mm. Now, if that is installed in the rear and driven on the street, what will happen? I plan on running a large front swaybar but I think that the balance might be off?? Do you think that it is designed to take the abuse of aggressive street driving ie, taking fast turns?? As always, any thoughts/suggestion/opinions are welcome. Thanks, Paul Moore

When you push into a corner hard, it will try to keep the car square and will try to lift the inside rear tire. Thats why it built/reccomended for drag use only. It will kill any "balance" for handling.

- Bottom line, it's to big to corner well.

I was kind of leaning towards that conclusion but thought I would ask anyway. I thought that maybe someone on here has already tried it to see if it would work. I would imagine that the drag race style swaybar has a different type of torsional ability built into it than a regualr swaybar, and needed size(diameter) to make up for it. I'll stick with the regualr swaybars that I wanted to use originally and see how it hooks at the track. Thanks

I'm not a drag racing guy but it seems to me that you may be able to use this bar. As was already stated this bar will make the car loose in corners. If you disconnect the bar while not at the track you could run stiffer rear springs to compensate. Naw that would suck... but it only takes a few minutes to swap swaybars so just change them for the track.
