coil spring lifters?
okay heres the thing i have a 83 camaro that sits/drags on the ground its so low but my dad was saying somthing about coil spring lifters not sure if thats what there called but there suposed to lift your car up and when we asked a worker at car quest he said that dont get them they like eat away you shocks or somthing like that im not sure. but my dad said somthing like i should be more worried about them falling off. if any1 knows anything about this please let me know how they work. thanks

don't waste your money, they are junk. they bend and break and could be dangerous. i would just replace them with some new springs...either a good quality lowering spring or iroc springs or something along those lines.

what he is referring to is coil over shocks they have a spring that goes over the shocks to help lift the car and help with the handling also. they look like this unassembled.

i HARDLY doubt that if he was asking at carquest asking the rep there, he was talking about a qa1 coil over system. the system you've got posted is like $500+...i know, i've got a set on my fathers car.

I have talked to 83 camaro before and he was talkin about the car being too low, he wanted to keep it stock but just add some spacers between the coils to raise it. he just wanted to do a cheap fix. idk if this helps any. Last edited by 84'Firebird; May 15, 2006 at 10:57 PM.

cheap *reliable* fix: get some used ws6 or iroc springs. they will handle great and put the car up a few inches over the old saggy springs.

thanks guys and im not sure on what they look like because i never seen them before all i know is there ment to lift the car up i think maybe if i just repace the shocks in the rear and put new tires should be fine cuse the tires in the back are smaller then the ones in the front
Just get a set of springs from a 4th gen, they go right in and lift the back up nicely. i bought mine new from GM they were like 180 bucks. They needed to get specially ordered though so it took a few days. Do not use anything (coil boosters, wood....) to lift the stock springs. The springs will actually wear to whatever you used to lift the vehicle, crack and brake. 4th gen springs are your best method of lifting the rear safely

actually i just did the new shocks and 225/60 tires and it still sits to low, so if his spring are like mine it wont work, but i like the 4thgen idea but how much does it change the stance, any pictures?

i would say that your dad was saying to use a 2" polyeurathane spacer like the ones that are in the front-end on top of the springs. only 2" thick, instead of 1/2" thick. its like a rubber doughnut that the spring sits on. not sure if the make them for the rear of camaros, and if they do i dont know how well they will work but they are cheap and they do the trick.

wow! i see some immaturity in here big time!
my 82 ws6/7 rear springs are horrible
they are the saggiest i have ever seen the rear of the car is super low to the ground badly
so i dont think the early years ws6/7 springs are worth a crap, and are very weak soft
bad idea
i dont know what rear springs were taller or stiffer in these cars
no one seems to know
i guess air shocks will be the way to go to lift my ride up in the rear a bunch
dunno any other way at this point
there seems to have been single stage, and dual stage springs in these cars
dunno which were on which, or which are stiffer unloaded/extended
it is so difficult to find out spring info
basically impossible

wow what the **** is your deal, and yeah I do use some of the advice people give me. BTW this thread is old I also found out that coil spring lifters wont do anything and are very dangerous. I already put rear shocks in it sits a little higher but to make it higher I need new coil springs.
