2" adapter dont fit! :O

Hi guys, I got my car all painted up nice, got my Z01 rims and got my 2" adapter! So I was cleaning everything up, putting my new emblems on, and then came the time for the new rims and tires. I tried putting on the adapter but it doesnt fit. There is about a 1/16th high by 1/4" wide band around the base of the rotor hub and the adapter cant butt up against the rotor completly. So what can I do about this? Can I get the adapter bored out so that it fits? Where would I go for that? I was almost tempted to grease up the adpater and hub and bolt it on with some force.. but I didnt imagine anything good would come from that.

Here is an image:

FullSize about 6MB

Any thoughts?

Thanks guys!

Aftermarket rotors eh?

I wouldn't reccommend grinding it out, you will never get it 100% round all the way around. You could try a non-hub centric adapter, or go back to stock rotors...

Yes For a daily driver these work pretty good. The shop that swapped my rotors didnt give me back my old ones.. wtf.. I thought he put them in the car but didnt. I had them replace my rear axle shaft too because it was slightly bent at the flang and would squeek/ rub the rotor and brake pad together every rotation.. destroying both the rotor and brakepad.. anyway.. I think he just tried bending the shaft back into place and kept the replacment.. not sure but the squeek is back.. but quite.

But I digress..

So back to the topic.. you think I could take this to a machine shop and have them bore it a bit ? Any idea on how much that would cost?

Machine shop opening them up is probably the best way to go without swapping parts. I can't imagine it being more than $100, but your mileage may vary.

Getting them machined for 45$ for the set.. not too bad I think. I might just get my rims on my car before my birthday after all!

Cheers,

I got them on Ebay "cjbargins"

eBay Motors: WHEEL SPACERS/ADAPTERS GM-S10-CAMARO-CORVETTE-FIREBIRD (item 8046168696 end time Jun-09-06 06:52:44 PDT)

Doesnt look like he has anything above 1-1/4 right now.. but he is selling sets finally. I just picked up two pairs.. which was a bit more expensive.

Anyway, you might want to contact him first and tell him about your rotors and see if he can machine them for you. I have been emailing him the last couple days about my camaro- so maybe if he sees more than one person with the problem he will offer the adapters that fit the aftermarket rotors.

cheers

i sent the guy a message too

i wonder if you could just take a carbide or really rough sand paper or something and grind down that little metal ring...just enough to make it work...the lugs can hold it perfectly center however as long as you didnt over do it and just did a very little at a time it shouldnt hurt it...then again you might as well just lightly grind the back of your front wheels out depending on which route you want to go

ive also contacted adaptitusa which is TWICE the price and asked to know the specific dimension of their hub circle so maybe they can do something to help fix it or just make theirs a tad bigger

i just got off the phone with adaptitusa.com representatives and was told that they can custom make the bore diameter to any specifications...so what you need is a very accurate reading of that final width

im not sure of how to perfectly measure that tho...i guess i could attempt to just measure how many millimeters the stock bore diameter is and then just add the amount measured...anyone else have other ideas

The cjbargins guy said if I new the measurements I can send the adapters back to him and he will adjust them for free.. but I pay shipping
..so he is probably willing to work it out with you

You answered your own question. You will never get it right (100% identical all the way around so it does not vibrate from being out of round) doing it that way.

HOWEVER...you can over grind it and make it lug centric and not hurt anything...it might make the ride a bit crappier but it wont hurt the car....or over grind it and use a rubber hub spacer to make it work...anyhow there are many ways to do it..however i will measure it out to perfection and then relay that information to cjbargains company...now what i need to know is if they hub is 71 mm as opposed to the stock 70.6mm so do i ask for them to be bored to 71.1mm so that they fit over by only by a tad or what?

With the adapter being so close to the hub I am not sure exactly how much of a problem you will notice. The hub doesn't turn quite as fast as the outer portion of the wheel. .. Or it does turn as fast as the outer but... *goes cross-eyed*
