18" wheels
I'm ready to put on some 18" rims on my '87 camaro z28 convertible. How do yours fit? I'm not sure what size will fit. I was told 245 x 45, but i'm not sure. Any suggestions? Thanks Rick
The wheel width really matters, espeially when talking bigger diameter wheels that run smaller sidewall tires. So anyone looking for specs should include the width of the wheels they're using.
I'm running 275/35/18 on the rear with 18x9.5 wheels, here's a picture:

When determining tire fitment I usually use a tire calculator to determine the overall heights of the tires I'm considering using, then I find out which manufacturers make tires in that size, then I verify the wheel width I'm using is within the tire manufacturer recommended specs. This info can be found on the tire spec .pdf files on most tire manufacturer websites.

i lowered my car before i put my new wheels on. but you don't have to lower your car because you put bigger wheels. if you do lower it don't go to low because then you might run into rubbing problems.

im runnin 245/40-18's
there the exact same diameter as the stock 245/50-16's (i think thats what they were...)
im thinking about lowering it 1.5+ inches though.

if you are worried about rubbing i think you will be fine. the tire diameter is the same and there should be no problem with fitment.

I forgot about this post, LOL. I guess when I asked the question, I was more concerned with tire brand and ride quaility. What tire brands in the 18" size gives good traction and wear for the street, and what are some of you guys experiencing? Anyone like me running the car on the autoX course with there 18's? Thanks

i have Kumho ECSTA MX tires and they grip really good for the street. i don't take my car on any autox or anything but coming around corners with some speed, they still stick to the road. i don't know about the wear for the track but for a performace tire i think they wear slower than expected.
