I was considering getting Subframe Connectors for my Firebird and I was wondering how much the install would cost. On NJFBOA Someone recommended a local shop to me and they told me the labor alone would cost $400. He said he would have to remove most of the interior in order to do it. Also, my car is undercoated so that might make it a little harder but it still sounds like a really high price to me. How much does labor usually cost for SFCs??

I thought it sounded way too high, I'll check with some other places.
Is it true that the interior needs to be taken out? I had SFC's on a mustang in the past and didn't have to do anything with the interior and there were no burns in the carpet, etc.

i have the weld in subframe connectors too, the best bet for you is to call around to some exhaust shops because they weld a lot, so they usually know what they are doing, if you take it to someplace like that you should be able to get it for a lot cheaper than $400 you just have to do some callin around

 

it doesnt always happen, but there is a risk of burning holes in the carpet. There is no way the guy has any sense, charging 400$ so install subframe connectors. He can weld but its at your own risk if carpet happens to burn any holes, thats why he was taking the precaution but i suggest you find someone else.

I bought new carpet but im didnt bother installing it until i get the SC's and other suspension installed this weekend.

 

damn so it is a real concern about the carpet burning? what parts of the carpet have to be pulled? i just hate how somtimes that kind of stuff doesnt go back in perfect after u take it out.

 

I had my passenger side SFC installed by a speed shop and they didnt have to pull back the carpet and no burns here...Just the passenger side cost me $200 and dont forget i have dual catalytic converters on my car so it makes it a little more tuff. They normally charge $150 a side so $300 for all.


So take off 2 interior panels and pull the carpet back towards the center console/seat and your done... Thats all it takes and its not hard at all to get it back in correctly.

 

I had mine done at a local racefab shop for 120.00 but that was 6years ago.. He did pull back the carpet in a few key points, I have the jegster connectors. Look for a smaller shop, the best price and quality can be there, just so long as they actually "know" what you want done.

the shop was Matt Wirt Racefab in Chesapeake VA.

 

I've been quoted anywhere from $75 (local performance shop) to $200 (body shop I pretty much trust) to get SFCs welded in. I agree, $400 sounds way high. Do some calling around, I'm sure you can do better.

Also, do you know anyone who works at a muffler/exhaust shop? I've got a hookup at one through a friend of mine, & I'm supposed to be getting my SFCs welded in tomorrow for free... (Crossing fingers...)

 

I had mine welded in for free...i bolted them in first though. I had the car in for some exhaust work right after the subframe install. Dual cat car..asked the tech if he could weld them in while he was welding the exhaust.

If there welding them to the subframe and the pinchweld i dont see a reason to pull the carpet. If your welding to the floorpan that might be a cause for concern.
