wonder bar ?

k im just wondering how much a "wonder bar" is going to help out the handling/stiffness of my car. I found one on ebay for a reasonable price close enough to go and pick up. I am probably getting it. What will I need to do to make it work on my 89 rs convertible? any fabbing needed to make it work or just bolt it on? Where exactly does it bolt on to? TIA!!

It acts as a brace for the forward half of the front subframe and also minimizes the chance of stress cracks around the steering box. Should bolt right in using the sway bar mounts. A very simple job.

thanks for the help! I plan on getting it painted or powdercoated red to match some of my other suspension parts. any suggestions on where to get this done? Can i take it to a body shop and have them spray it and put like 5 clear coats on it or something? thanks again

Having it media blasted then powder coated will probably be your best bet for durability.Like Scottlb9 stated it mounts using the sway bar bolts.Just unbolt the 4 sway bar bushing bolts and leave it attached by the links, the "wonderbar" slips under the bushing clamps and reinstall the bolts.
It adds extra support across the front end, similar to installing a strut tower brace. It also takes stress off the steering box frame rail.F-bodys are know to develop stress cracks in that area. You will be happy with the addition IMHO.

Here's the Global West version and its placement:

By the way, the OEM Wonderbar went for something like $32 dollars new, so don't get carried away in the bidding. After market pieces aren't all that expensive either. IIRC, I payed $40 for my Global West piece (some time ago).

They typically go for $50.00 shipped on E-bay. Anytime someone post a salveage car the first request is "Does it have a wonderbar, if so, how much?"

Crazy. The OEM piece is simply stamped steel. The after market versions are far superior, especially for the money. Check out TDS, for example, before plunking down hard-earned cash on a 15- or 20-year-old piece. Lon's version is already powder-coated red.
