South Side machine Lift Bar Help!

I just bought a set of SSM sfc, and lift bars from a member here. The instructions were not included. He told me I need to set the pinion angle when welding them to the axle. Anybody know what angle or anything else I need to know? Maybe some pics? Also can I eliminate the torque arm?

Thanks

Pinion angle should be -2 to -3.

Sorry but SSM bars are junk.

Re: South Side machine Lift Bar Help!

They basically act as a second method of controling axle wrap, the torque arm being the first. The problem is that the point that the rear end rotates around is not the same between the lift bars and the torque arm. What happens is your rear suspension binds and something lets loose. Luckily the lift bars are built really crappy and they end up letting loose first.

In theory you could remove your torque arm and the lift bars would act like a pesuedo 4-link. Again going back to the fact that they aren't strong enough to do so pretty much negates this idea.

LW was trying to prevent axle wrap with these things, the problem is that wheel hop on these cars is not caused by axle wrap. Most of the time it has to do with the angle of the lower control arms.

Sell them to some other poor sap and move on.

Re: South Side machine Lift Bar Help!

Then what should I use relocation brackets? Maybe a combination?

Thanks

Re: South Side machine Lift Bar Help!

From what I hear welded on relocation brackets with a good set of control arms drastically solve wheel hop problems with these cars.

Re: South Side machine Lift Bar Help!

SSM lift bars are great products and are no longer made, where did you find your kit? Everyone else is thinking of the LAKEWOOD lift bars where the lower bar will typically snap off. The SSM kit deletes the torque arm all together and just has 2 bars welded to the rear housing instead and a crossmember welded across the chassis to locate them.

Yep deletes the torq arm I have a set on my car work great untill I started going 1.40 60fts. And back in the day around 1995 I use to drive around on sportsman pros car would dead hook on the street and track pulled 1.50 to 1.55 on those tires going 11.30s with a 327 small block on spray made alot of extra cash with that combo.
