Torque Arm Mount
Hey, I got a little problem with my camaro. I was driving the other day and all of the sudden I heard this bang. Wasnt sure what it was so I stopped looked under the car nothing was hanging down. So I drove home, jacked the car up, and found my torque arm popped out of the shell thats mounted to the T-5. So I put it back in, drove for about 30 kms and it came apart again. I think the hole in the tranny might be stripped. Any ideas on the easiest way to fix this. I thought about welding the clamp shut so the rubber cant jump out. My other problem is that when I try to put car in reverse 90% of the time it grinds, put it goes into all other gears good. Tranny is rebuilt, with a centerforce clutch and its a mechanical linkage clutch system from an 83 camaro. Tranny is running with ATF fluid, I was told by a #of people to use that. Also when car heats up, after like 20 minutes of driving, it gets a lil harder to shift, hard to get into 1st. Oh yeah, the car was originally a 305 TPI auto, now its a 350TPI T-5, engine and tranny rebuilt about 1k ago. Any help would be really appriciated.
Thanks,
Thomas

Re: Torque Arm Mount
sounds like you're missing some bolts on top to keep the clamps shut.

Re: Torque Arm Mount
I thought those mounts were kept shut with through bolts. Not threaded. A long bolt goes through the clamshell then through the trans tail into a separate nut on the opposite side.
At least on my auto it does.

Re: Torque Arm Mount
Hi, yea on the auto it does. But on the manual, 2 bolts go actually through the tranny, those are the bottom 2. And the third bolt that holds the clamshell shut is on top and just threads into the tranny. I believe this hole is cross threaded. So its not holding my clam shell shut. Any ideas?

Re: Torque Arm Mount
IIRC its a10mm x 1.25 bolt. Tap it out to a 7/16-14 and put a new bolt of the same size and pitch of the tap, then loc-tite it. Samething happened to me when I had a T5 in my car. Thats what I did and it worked well till I upgraded to a T56.

Reverse
Thanks for the info guys. Anybody have any idea about the grinding into reverse tho? Its really annoying, and I'm not sure what to do about it.

Re: Reverse
My understanding is that there are no synchros on the reverse gear, so that is normal. I have the T5 and what I do now stops it from grinding completely. When you're going to go into reverse, push the shifter into 5th gear and then pull it straight back into reverse, it shouldn't grind anymore.
