under normal driving, who has broken or cracked one on the street?
none of this "my buddy did," or "i heard."
personal experiences only, please.
this should be a nice topic to discuss.

 

Couple of friends have driven around on Weld Draglites for a few years without problems. One on pizza cutter fronts and the other with I think 15x5 wheels in the front.

 

A few years ago I cracked a centerline on a smallish pot hole. It was the solid center( Auto drag I think.) It is not as light as some of the wheels you have listed, but it still cracked more easily than a stock wheel in my opinion.

 

thanks for the info, but everyone runs draglites and prostars without issue. those wheels have way more material in them.

 

I bent the hell out of a draglite with very little effort. I only ran them on the street for two seasons but I spun a little on take off while I was close to a curb and ever so slightly bumped it with the tire. Like road rash bump but no metal contact just a soft little thump from the tire. I drove off not worried and it felt fine so I carry on. First car that sees me almost runs me off the road blowing their horn waving their arms frantically so I stop. The rear wheel was sooooooo bent I couldn't believe it. Not dimpled just bent over like folding in half the whole thing. It actually drove okay it barely vibrated and only at speed but the thing was a waaaaay out of whack even sitting still you could easilly see how bent it was. Kinda funny too cuz I drove it like that for two days until a new one came in ( no choice only car at the time ) and all sorts of people were trying to notify me of it by similar means to john Q 1 above.

Great lightweight wheel but I wouldn't run them on a daily driver. Not to mention they were HELL to keep shiny. I'll never have polished wheels again for DD duty. For racing and Weekend car I'd highly recommend not to mention they looked bitchen

 

I have broken Holeshots. They where my friends but cost a lot to replace!

 

front or real wheel?
did you hit anything, or was it just from the heat of driving on it?

 

I have Mickey T's front runners and I locked the brakes up on a curve at roughly 70 mph and I was surprised the wheel didn't fold over or even bend.

 

Well you did asked for similar wheels I personally wouldn't run them on the street.

 

Front and it wasn't that bad just bent the lip. We think it was when I turned intothe parking lot and the drivers-front went over the lip of the driveway.

Oh and in high school a buddies 71" camaro had drag light? and he was doing dounuts in the empty lot and after like 4-5 fast hard 360s the both front and rears folded.

 

My convo pros i noticed in the magazine say "Not for highway use". I wonder if it is due to it being kina thin maybe?

 

IMO, that wheel is more safe than others.
convos, pretty much all centerlines are going to be decently safe.
i have a set of telstars on the car and drive mine like its stock. ive never had an issue after 6-7 years of driving. railroad tracks, bumpy roads, you name it.

 

my friend cracked a bogart wheel on the inside and lost all pressure.

 

i noticed one of my draglites is bent the other day. not really drastic or noticable visually, but when the car was on the dyno it was definitely hopping a bit. and i agree with cam, they really are a pain to keep clean and shiny

Gota friend that had 3-3.5" prostars on his LT1 formula for a season, he drives like an idiot, and takes corners way to fast all the time for the wheels he has on the car. I pulled the wheels of one day to do a brake job on the car, and on the inside where the spokes met with the outer hoop was cracked on the inside on 3-4 of the spokes. When i put the wheels on ealier in the season i had checked them over and did not see these cracks.

I drive nice and easy around the turns on my telstars as i have no front sway bar, and they have held up now after 3-4 owners who drive their cars on the street ~150 miles a week.

 

ive had telstars on my car now for over 7 years, and they still look brand new.
i drive my car like a truck, i dont swerve and dodge and hit brakes like most would do. wheels have held up nice.

 

I had 16 x 8" weld prostars on the front of my car. Broke the right front rim while making a left turn into a mall in Warren MI after the Camaro show. The rim looked liked someone took a can opener to the rim and peeled the centre out.

Had to drive home 3 hours on the spare. Luckily it rained all the way home so it kept the wheels cool.

Sent the rim back to Weld who took x-ray's. First they said it was driver abuse. After I persisted they said it was a faulty rim and would replace it.

Not impressed with Weld. Sold the rims and put 16" IROC rims on the car.
