Softest drag springs for a daily driver?

What would be the best springs for a daily driver without feeling like my car is going to flip over when im on an on ramp?I want something to give decent weight transfer but not lean to bad around turns,i will however keep my stock sway bars on until i go to the track then i will remove the front, but i also have a brand new set of kyb gr-2''s that i will use and yes i know that im kinda mix matching but im only looking for a little better than stock weight transfer nothing to much thanks for any help...charles

I drive around on 3" skinnies and no front sway bar with stock v-6 springs and shocks all the time, car doesn't lean at all. i usually go the recommended speed, maybe 5-10 higher at times on whats posted for the exit ramps. Its not a cornering machine, but its just fine to me for DDing when the weather is nice.

Cornering and drag racing need 2 different types of springs. The best you can do is use the factory springs and live with marginal results for both types of driving.

run the factory v8 springs and that's the best compromise, pull the sway bar for when at the track.

id rather have a v6 spring up front if you are going to stick with stock springs. the v8 spring is just too stiff, IMO.
sent you a PM.

If you really wanted to you could install a set of 4cyl (non-AC) springs, that is what alot of the 5.0 guys have done to help with transfer. Granted your not going to be able to autocross the thing, but for a mild trade-off it should work fine.

I know that im not going to take on ramps at a 100 and thats fine,i just want a spring that gives a better launch without being to sloppy for dd.What if i went with stock springs in the rear and drag springs on the front and remove the sway bar "only' when at the track, maybe even an airbag in the right rear?

Re: Softest drag springs for a daily driver?

What you want for front springs is essentially a spring tall enough to still be under significant compression at full front suspension droop (limited by strut length) with a light enough spring rate that will compress to the ride height you desire. The goal is to maintain a high spring rate even at full suspension droop. A shorter stiffer spring (typically used for handling performance) will quickly reduce the amount of force it exerts on the A arm as it approaches full droop.

Choosing a spring from a much lighter car may not accomplish what you want and may in fact be less effective than your stock springs.

Running KYB struts is going to counteract efficient weight transfer. If you want to set up your car for drag racing I would start with at least 70/30 or 90/10 front struts and absolutely remove the sway bar. The front springs probably wont do much for you but some F41 springs are a good bit taller if you want to go the cheap route.

In my experience airbags are very effective launch tuning devices. On my old thirdgen, the airbags helped prevent excessive squat. When I tried them empty I wouldn't initially hit the tires as hard but it would spin a lot more. Especially on the 1-2 shift.
On my turbo buick, a right rear airbag is absolutely essential for a straight launch. A bigger rear sway bar has a similar effect. Especially one that you can pre-load.

Re: Softest drag springs for a daily driver?

I have done the same research and came to find that the part numbers are the same for V-8 and V-6 springs. so running a V-6 spring won't change anything. What you need is a MOROSO TRICK SPRING they are longer with a lower rate. Those and a 70/30 strut will do the trick. If you don't dd the car use a 90/10 but they WILL scare you in a dd application. You may have to do a little cutting to get the ride height you want. I have run these on several different cars and the work great. you're looking at about $120 I think. and $200 for a pair of struts. As for the rear, a set of high milage stock springs with air bags and El Cheapo AutoZone shocks.

Re: Softest drag springs for a daily driver?

V6 springs are made from a smaller diameter wire to produce a lower spring rate. Z28 and WS6 springs are very firm because they are made from a thicker diameter wire.

Re: Softest drag springs for a daily driver?

Well i really dont have the money for new shocks and struts so i guess i will be sticking with the kyb's.But i was thinking about running stock springs in the rear with lcarb, tubular lower control arms, and panhard bar in the rear and drag springs in the front and remove the sway only when im at the track what do you gus think about that?or should i just do all of the above but use stock springs in the front also?
