new kyb shocks / struts .. and poly bushings .. gotta question?

i just finished putting in new kyb gr-2 struts / shocks .. and i got a complete set of energy suspension poly bushings ..

put on all the shock / struts .. the old ones were trash .. the piston would just fall into the base when i pulled it up ..

neways ..

put on new poly front sway bar mounts / end links ..

set the car back on the ground .. and now it sits up about 1" higher than it was ..

is this normal b/c the shocks were shot ..

also .. how long should i expect to spend putting the whole bushing set in when i get some time to do it ..

i put a set in my 89 mr2 and it was a HUGE pain in the a$$, i had to take a oxyacetylene torch to the old bushings then put it on a press

Did you replace the a arm bushings?

If so, the springs may not be seated properly. Also, you want to tighten the a arms with the weight of the car on the suspension.

not yet ..

the only bushings i did were the front sway bar mounts (two), and the two new endlinks (little links with 4 bushings)

i think the height difference was because the old shock werent taking any weight .. i only replaced shocks in the back and it too is a little higher ..

If I read this right, the car should settle down when you roll it around a little bit.

how are the shocks are struts? i just got mine in yesterday i got the KYB gr2 and the gas a just for the rear i figured it would raise the height up since the ones on now are more than likely stock so i also got the eibach pro kit and new ball joints. im just waiting to get those things in.

Re: new kyb shocks / struts .. and poly bushings .. gotta question?

yea .. i wouldnt be suprised if my set were the stockers ..

if there shot, then yes it will raise the car up .. but it rides a million times better .. instead of being a loose "hunk of crap" car feeling .. its a firmer / smoother ride ..

havent got all the bushings in, just the front sway bar mounts and end links .. but so far there is a HUGE difference ..

and i must say i kinda like the car sitting up slightly higher .. gives it a bigger / more aggressive look from the front (kinda like the new mustang)

Didnt these cars come with bilstein shocks from the facotry? If so, I cant imagine that KYB's would ride better...

i dont think were debating wheter kyb are better than bilstein or not ..

its just that our "thought to be stock" shocks are completely shot, as in they dont work at all

so a kyb compared to know shock's are day / night .. but have no clue how good a bilstein rides .. maybe ill try that next time i change them ..

no bilsteins were not stock.. yes, they are the prob the best. but very expensive. and almost any new shock and or strut will be a huge difference over any stock piece.
