Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

Spohn's panhard rods and lca's come with either a poly end, a spherical end, or both poly and spherical. What's the difference? Do both types of ends function the same?

Re: Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

there is a big difference, poly/poly is for dragracing. spherical is for roadracing/handling, and there is a big difference, i had poly/poly on my car and switched them to double spherical, but i think a poly/spherical combo would be ideal.

when i had the poly/poly combo the rear would'nt pivot becuase of the bushings binding and it cause roll oversteer, with the double spherical, cornering over rough and uneven roads is 2X as good as the poly. it allows the rear to pivot and track the road better, the rear used to jump around alot during cornering on bad roads, with the spherical set it now feels like a really tight independent rear.

Re: Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

Thank you very much!

This setup will be for roadracing/handling. If the spherical/poly combo is ideal, should the poly end be connected to the body? Are no bushings used with the spherical ends?

I am also planning on doing the welding on subframe connectors and LCARBS. Are there any fuel lines located close to the weld zone that I need to be aware of? These pieces will be TIG welded in.

Re: Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

yes the poly end goes to the body, it absorbs the vibrations, with the sperical ends, they are the bushing so to speak, i'm planning on welding in my UMI subframe connectors tis or next week, i'm still waiting for them to arive from ups.

when your welding on to the subframe you have to be carefull not to burn holes in the chasis or to allow it to get so hot that the carpet melt's/catches fire, if your very comfortable welding you might be ok, but i plan on pulling up the carpet and seats for safety. the fuel lines shouldnt be a problem, besides they hang off of the bottom of the chasis so they are easy to see/avoid

Re: Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

Sounds good, thanks for the info about the SFC's and LCA's.

How thick is the chassis? Welding won't be a problem, that's actually what I do to make $$. I just don't want to test heat input on the chassis and risk burning through it. Thanks again!!

Re: Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

its all sheet metal, maybe a couple thicknesses of 20 gauge, maybe some 18 and 16 thrown in there somewhere. I mig welded mine in and found that the metal was thick enough that burning through was not an issue, unless you use a ridiculously high heat setting. just have to be careful when welding to the floor pans, they will get real hot and carpet likes to burn when it gets real hot

Re: Spohn Suspension Products - A Question

You can make your own for less than you can buy. I made mine with a rod end on the axle and rubber end on the body. Best of both worlds. Decent ride and no binding:
