what's wrong with this 1989 IROC-Z?

Here is the ad on e-bay....http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true The seller states new tires on factory wheels...Sure they are...Factory wheels for 1985-1987, but not for 1989!! He states serious car auction for serious car guys...A serious seller would know those are not the original wheels, especially when claiming the car came out of storage after 10 years....If it has 71k miles on it, then show the odometer.....

I have seen alot of scams even with big name car dealers trying to sell 1989 IROC's as 1989 IROC-RS.....I was in high school when the 1985 IROC came out! I remember when Michael Jordan was a rookie w/ the Bulls and would shoot a basketball through the T-Tops and say "I don't just beat 'em, IROC 'em!!

One thing I don't like is when the seller claims all original unmolested in the auction and it's not...Now I know how you the first gen purists feel....When it comes to someone saying it's all original, I am a third gen purist!!

FWIW, the original correct wheels on a 1989 IROC should look like these http://www.iroc-z.com/1989pages/1989gallery/1989pic46.htm

Here is another pic of 1989 IROC with the original correct wheels http://www.iroc-z.com/1989pages/1989gallery/1989pic54.htm

The last pic probably gives the best illustration up close of what the wheels should look like http://www.iroc-z.com/1989pages/1989gallery/1989pic45.htm

Compare the links to the wheels above to the ad on e-bay!!

Peace!!

Re: what's wrong with this 1989 IROC-Z?

I agree that those are not the correct wheels for an 89 or 90. Also, I don't believe that t-tops could be had with the 5.7 in 89. The VIN says it's a factory 5.7 so the t-tops are probably aftermarket IMO. Most interesting of all is that the VIN also appears to indicate that the car is NOT an IROC-Z.

***new stuff follows
Well it turns out that it does appear to be an IROC-Z after all. Carfax didn't report it that way, but Autocheck did. Very interesting history on that car, scored a whopping 20 on Autocheck (19-48 for similar vehicles). My VIN scores a 54

I have an 89 T-top with the original 5.7 in it.

Re: what's wrong with this 1989 IROC-Z?

Actually it was 1990 where you could not get T-Tops with the 5.7L from the factory. The 1989 models were available with 5.7L and T-Tops. I think that's because for 1990 GM changed the rear end and went with the worthless 7.625" rear end from yesteryear instead of from what many guys have said was the decent Australian 9 bolt available in the earlier model.

Those are not 1989 wheels on that e-bay car! Those are off a 1985-1987 car! I am old enough to remember that!

That's funny, I just saw that ad yesterday and was wondering the same thing...

Someone contact the guy and see what he says. I was also looking at this one just to see how high the auction will go...

I wouldnt flip over the wheels man. That looks to be a real nice car. I bet he didnt like the way the newer style IROC's looked, and changed them out. I would have!

It's a matter of honesty and integrity. If the seller is not honest about things like the wheels, then what else might they be concealing? That car has been auctioned, reposessed, and clasified as a fleet vehicle. Those are things that I know for a fact about that car; who knows what other skeletons are in it's closet. Just saying......

I realize this, but as long as your not the buyer, whats it matter. Your not buying it, nobody from ebay is gonna see this thread. Why waste your time commenting on it?

I mean if somebody here post about he/she was thinking about buying it, then I could see what your saying, but to just make a post about some random car on ebay that you aren't even interested in buying, just seems pointless.

Excuse me, I thought this was a public forum where a free exchange of ideas could occur. I commented because someone else commented (it happened to be you I guess). Not sure why you should be allowed to comment yet not I. Anyway.....

The truth is that the car has been titled five or six times and that the most recent title transfer occurred less than 18 months ago. It's a franken-z, with a very questionable history. The seller stated that those were the wheels that came new with the car. How would he even know?
