UMI STB Problems??

Hey guys i just put on my STB and its hitting my throttle spring on the drivers side of the plenum. Should i be worried about this? it is only allowing 50-75% of the spring to work. Also i got 4mm of clearence over the plenum, will that be okay as well? Thanks for any replies.

Well not sure how your STB is configured but it's never a good idea to restrict movement on a throttle spring, can you reposition or offset the spring mount. Later.

Re: UMI STB Problems??

??? I thought tpi throtle springs were built into the TB. A coil wraped around one side. How could the STB hit it. Some picks would be good to see how it is installed.

Re: UMI STB Problems??

Wow i never noticed that built in spring before, do i feel retarded. The spring that someone obviously added was on the throttle cable bracket to the piece that the cable is actually connected to. could my original spring be bad that they put this one on? remember my car is a manual so maybe it wasnt idleing down fast enough. nevermind ill post that in the engine board.

How about the clearence issue on the plenum or isnt it an issue at all? My motor hasnt hit it yet so i dont think it will be, I hope.

The distance between the hood and plenum is very minimal... we have to keep the brace extremely close in order to keep it from hitting the hood so what you are seeing is correct.

Here is a picture from my car-

Re: UMI STB Problems??

Thanks UMI that looks like the same amount of clearence i have. Recent driving has produced NO hitting and i dont think it ever will. Finish was excellant and other than the spring (my fault ) The install was a breeze. I even Drilled the two holes you provide and bolted it to the shock tower.

I just ordered UMIs SFCs through byunspeed and cant wait to get them installed! Thanks again UMI

Re: UMI STB Problems??

Will your strut bar work on a v6 car? I see the notch in the bar to clear the intake plenum. The v6 plenum is wider than the v8. Just wondering if it will work. Thanks! Oh, by the way, do your sub-frame connectors install without modification to the stock style exhaust system? Thanks again

Re: UMI STB Problems??

Hello,

We are pretty sure it will not clear V6 cars... just works with the Camaro TPI

The SFC's will clear with the V8 factory exhaust with a single cat with out modifications... it will clear most other systems with out modification as well. So I assume it would clear your V6 but can't make a guarantee on that.. but we do leave the passenger side in (2) pieces for this reason, it allows you work around it better.

Hope that helps!
Ryan

Re: UMI STB Problems??

Thanks for your reply. I just found your web site, and have been comparing your SFC,s with Sphoon and Hotchkis. Yours are the most impressive, especially at that price. Hotchkis are $50 more. It may be a while before I save the money, but I think yours are the way to go.
By the way, would you be willing to custom make a strut bar brace for us v6 guys???
