Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
I am thinking that a STB will be purchased in this next year as I continually inprove and upgrade my car.
I have a Carb and an Open element air cleaner. I also have a spare HO air cleaner that I may put on at shows.
I wanted to see if anyone would be kind enough to post up some pics of theirs with a StrutTowerBrace and either the TBI or Carb applications.
Also opinions on how much it reduced cowl flex, any info if it gets in the way of things you do like maintenence and any other info.
THX, Michel

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
I'm sure it will make a huge difference in the stiffness of the car. If your concerned about accessibility, get one that can be unbolted easily like the Edelbrock piece.

My UMI stb did help alot IMO with the front end stiffness. Im sure all the STBs are pretty much the same for stiffining up the car, 3 points even more. You'll be happy with whatever one you get.
p.s. thanks for the t-top bag Mike!! Looks like new!

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
RobertFrank - cool idea on the aircleaner lid. I have an Open with a Flow-Thru top and also posess a HO assembly. I never thought of combining the 2.
89ROC-Z - No problem. Glad you got the bag you wanted.
Thanks for the pics and opinions. Those look like thicker tubing than I thought they would be. I didnt see the removable base or solid base option. But i see 86TA has solid mounts. Was that just something you did or did I miss something?
I dont have alot of underhood clutter. I have the 86 multi-belt pullies and each item has its own bracket. Thus I only have an Alt and PS Pump. No Smog pump or any related equipment, no AC or related hoses, no AIR Injection on the SLP Headers I have, etc. So it looks like it wont interfere with much under my hood.
After I get the underhood area repainted in my re-fresh and restore quest, I am going to get one of these.
Prob an Edel since they are the only one I see now for Carb.TBI.
THX again, Michel

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
I didnt like the mounts that edelcrock provided, the seemed way too tall, and being able to pivot on the bolt would still allow the strut towers to flex upward and little. I cut the STB, made the solid mounts, it also allowed my to lower it a little in the front, and you cant see in the pic, but where it mounts to the fire wall, i have mine reversed, the plate bolted under the cowl lip and the tubing sitting up, providing a little more clearance on my Dizzy. I will have to grab a pic of it tonight.

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
I'll have pics up of mine soon. I have the Edelbrock one the same as most guys that have posted already. What I would like to do also is change the mounts to solid like 86TA did. Nice job btw, I want to see the pics of the cowl.
On a side note, I love those mounting brackets for your alt and pwr steering robertfrank. Is there a kit or did you buy those individually?

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
Demon - Looks like the March Low-mount alt setup. I have the March std mount bracket like that. The PS bracket is also availible. I got the PS March pulley but not the bracket yet..yet =)
86TA - THX, I now remember seeng that tank. Pricey but very cool. That master res looks like th one on my S10. Just curious.
Paul - THX, I was wondering how the fitment with the HO intake was. I got a spare HO intake I plan on using if I can for shows.

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
Yes where the STB mounts to the cowl, you said you modified that as well. I've been looking to replace my serp setup I have currently with a March pulley kit but what my Alt to mount low like the PS pump. You guys have exactly what I wanted and I'm wondering if you have any part numbers? Do they sell the brackets separately or do you get them with the pullies? Are they underdrive like the Power/Amp series?

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
I bought seperately the Alt bracket kit, the 3-pc Pulley kit, the Alt pulley 'hat', tha PS OEM replacement pulley and then also did stainless mounting hardware. I havent bought the PS bracket yet. But they are all availible seperately.
He has the Low-Mount alt bracket. which is a seperate part number.
My pulleys are the stock replacement 86. Which had 2 v-belts and 1 multi-grove belt. It was kind of a weird year setup.
If you are deleting the air, smog and junk.....then you would probably just convert to the std 'HotRod' type pulley kit. March makes many different ones. They also sell packages with custom brackets and pulleys ready to install. But that gets pricey.

Re: Pics of STB and Carb or TBI
here are the pics i promised
a different angle, where you can see the back of the STB

detail of the solid mounts

the cowl mount, its unmodified, but the STB is built upside-down, to help with dizzy clearance and i think it had another purpose, but i forget what it was

and now that i look at the pics, i see that the hood is rubbing a little on the STB at the back there. No biggie.

It is meant for the dual snorkel. The problem is some cars have a/c bracket interference... My A/C is long gone.

i know its upside down, i did it on purpose. Installed the other way it was sitting right on the dizzy and thats not gonna work, so i went this way. Its just a little rub, nothing major, only in one small spot about an inch long.
