The wheels need spacers usually 2" to fit right. The tire size should fit on the rears, but I doubt the fronts if they're that size.

315/40/17? who makes a 40 series in that size?

As fast82z replied, you'll need spacers/adapters to run 93+ wheels on a 3rd gen. I would venture to guess the fronts aren't that wide. For the back you'll have to roll the wheel well lip and you may need to trim up/bfh the bumpstop a bit.

you can fit a 275 up front no bigger. and you can squeeze a 295 in back any bigger thou and you have to do major mods to your wheel well unless you want the tire to stick out a few inches.

I'll agree about the fronts, but my 315 rears don't stick out past the top lip and all I did was trim the corners off the bumpstops so that they wouldn't contact the wheel at full suspension extension(basically only when on the lift).

I'm gonna disagree with the 275 for 2 reasons....

I have 275/17s up front and could go in a hair or go out another 1/4-1/2 inch, with nothing sticking out. I'm planning on possibly going with 285s next time around.

I've seen 315s up front, not sticking out, past the top lip. But there were some serious sheet metal cutting involved.

No problem believing that. I've never tired larger than a 245 front(I run 8" front wheels). I've seen 275's but I haven't checked the fitment myself to see if there was anymore room.

I found one pic showing (sorta) how well my 275 fits.

I'm planning on getting my rears widened & put 315s in the rear, come new tire time.

i guess you could go with a 285 front but i see turning bieng difficult. and yes i have seen 315 rears but he cut a good bit out of his bumpstop maybe you dont need to as much as he did. if you can get them too fit and they look good post pics on what you did i would love to get some 315/40/18s on the back of mine.

What's the backspacing your wheels? How much inner fender wheel modding did you do?

17x11 with an 8" bs, but I've got a 4th gen rear. I rolled the lip on the fender and cut the front and rear corners off the bumpstops, as they would contact the wheel lip when it was hanging on a lift. Maybe smacked the bump stop with a bfh a couple times, it's been a while.

Re: will 315 40 17s from my 95 trans am fit my 1990 camaro rs ?

I have 315's on my '85 TA and there are no modifications done to get them to fit. They are on 17x10 Boyd Coddington's. Oh! and the size of the tire is 315-35-17. They don't make it in a 40 series. I have a 5.75 BS on the rears, I originally ordered them with a 6" but they sent me the 5.75...

Pics? How much do they tuck/stick out? I'm assuming on a 3rd gen rear axle?

I don't see a problem with 315s and some massaging. I have 295s that sit even with the wheel well and I have at least 3/4"-1" between the inner sidewall and contact with the fenderwell with my 19s.

thanks. Unforetunately it hasn't seen the road in over 3 years now. I've got way too many projects. All that is currently left is the body shell/skin. Going full tube chassis, but staying street use/occassional track. BOOST!
