Thank you very much. I went to mavis discount tire today and said to the guy behind the counter "you have any winter tires that fit 16x8 wheels?" He said "no" and then I come home and find ten tires that fit on my wheels on mavis discount tire's website.... Now I have to go back there and show him how to use a computer

I would think a 60 series sidewall would make the speedometer reading closer to correct. Stock sizes were 235/55 and 245/50s, so I think that 225/60s would be better. Might be wrong though.

Most tire places employ morons. My ex took her car (a 95 Eclipse) to have it alligned and tires replaced. Well, she had 18x6.5s on it from the previous owner. They order her something like 245/40R18s.... I tell her they're too wide for the rim (for the rim and the car) and will probably rub. She tells them and they tell her it'll work. Guess what- they put them on the car, and send them back. Similar incident occured when I ordered BFG g-Force KDWs and end up with g-Force Sports. At least the size was correct.

I never changed the speedo gear when I put in 3.42's....so I have been driving by feel..I will get to it eventually.

Oh man sorry to hear that about the tires. I would rap the guy who wouldn't listen to you in those tires and roll him down a hill.

 

stock size is fine, no real reason to go larger. the 60 series should be about 3/4" taller, which will still fit, but might start to rub in the front when turning.

A 225 on a 8" wheel? Yes, it'll "fit" but why do it? That stretches it to the max. 245s would be a MUCH better choice.

I don't think you'd be very happy with the looks OR performance of those skinny tires.

 

okay okay I wont get them. I just wasn't aware there was a 245 winter tire. I found some 235 60 16 snow tires. Here is the list of them

It's a winter tire. You don't want wide tires for winter tires. See if the manufacture says they are ok with 225s on a 8" wheel. If so, you'll have to put up with the looks and the smaller tread area. 235s might be a better choice when you factor in those criteria. That being said, I use 245s on my winter wheels (Bridgestone G009s) and 275s on my summer wheels (BFG g-Force Sports).

 

Alright I finally got my winter tires together. But when I picked up my wheels with the snow tires on them they put a 205 55 16 on one of them! I didn't even know a 205 could fit on a 16x8. It looked like a donut tire. So I had them put on the right size tire, 225. Then I get home jack up the car and both tires can only go on the driver side...They are uni-directional snow tires so I had to go back and tell them they put one of the tires on backwards..Then I finally got home and put them on. Sorry about the dirt, I just drove through a lot of slush going to and from Mavis...

must be a pretty lousy shop to install 1 different tire, and one backwards and let it out the door that way. I wouldn't go back
