Need help installing tq arm mount

I am in the process installing a poly tq arm mount. The problem i am having is, I can't seem to get the top mount bolt lined up. Is there any tips or tricks to getting it all lined up? Any help is greatly appreciated. - Russ

I've used a block of wood and a long pry bar on the tranny tunnel. The more leverage the better. It's a very tight fit.

Drop the back of the transmission down.

Re: Need help installing tq arm mount

Thanks. I will try that. Believe me it is not fun working on a car in the driveway in Anchorage, Ak. It is 14* out today. At these temps i am only able to do the work intermittently. Go out and wrench on it for 20-30 mins, go in and warm up for 10-15 mins. lol.

Re: Need help installing tq arm mount

Still having problems getting the top bolt to thread into the tranny. I can get the bolt threaded if i have the tq arm mount off. Is it supposed to be this hard to get this installed?

Re: Need help installing tq arm mount

Put a jack under the rear end and take pressure of the torque arm first. Get the rear tires off the ground so you can move the torque arm up and down effortlessly. That should give enough to be able to put the bolts in the mount....

Re: Need help installing tq arm mount

yea its not the easiest thing to do, but i will suggest you get a poly trans mount to, the stiff poly tq arm bushing will seem to make you rip through a rubber trans mount in no time.... it took 2 peeps to do mine if i remember correctly, one person moving the jack up or down on the rear to it got lined up right.....i know i cussed it ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i think i may have moddified the bolt somehow to.... i do know a sailor would of told me to watch my mouth because i was cussin

and another thought, unbolt the arm from the rear and then bolt up the trans mount, then get some with a jack under ther rear (with the car on stands on the unibody) and have them move the rear up or down till the rear end bolts line up, this may also require a HAMMER and alot of cussing also, but IMO its pretty easy once you done it a few times

Re: Need help installing tq arm mount

Thats funny you mentioned that 89 RS , I would rather take tranny out and rebuild then change torq arm bushing again, well from factory anyhow . I installed my Poly Torq Arm bushing bout two weeks ago , and the suspension upgrades I have put on in the last two months, (Including the pain in the *** bolts that wont brake loose without heat) . Were nothing compared to 3 hours it took me to take old out and put back in ,and I had a jack under rear end, and subframe on stands. Cause I thought it would take more time to unbolt tranny, but next time I am putting separate jack under tranny mount . . .
