What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
I am bored of my black eibach springs/koni shocks. My air dam is licking the ground too much and the ride is a bit too harsh. The handling is good anyway.
I want to go up maybe even to the factory height. I can get stock springs and shocks for not too expensive. But I think that the stock springs are not top notch. What other combo would you suggest? Do I need to change other parts, to have something coherent?
Thanks

Re: What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
stock moog replacements are the same as anyother brand spring. eibach etc. the quality is the same etc. for stock height would get stock replacment springs. your IROC has moog 5662s up front and moog 5665s in the rear. this will give u that orginal ride height and stock feel. as for the shocks i would leave your konis. the stock springs with koni shocks is a good combo, its just that most ppl who run stock springs cant afford or dont run konis. u always want to run the best dampners/struts/shocks u can afford even with stock springs. stock springs just allow you to run less quality shocks/struts. more espensive springs/higher rates etc will normally require better/best dampners.
by black eibaches im assuming prokit. with 714lbin rate front and 100-160lbin rear rate progressive. the moog 5662 is a 704lbin front rate and the moog 5665 is a 107lbin linear rear rate. there prob wont be a big change in driving. if u want a smoother ride u could do the moog 5660 front with 598lb/in rate and the moog 5665 rear. that will give u a more comfortable ride.
if u want good handling your ride comfort is going to suffer. its a sacrifice.

Re: What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
Why are you worried about the air dam dragging? I understand about the ride preferance as mine is a little rough for my tastes on roads in poor condition, but my air dam has been dragging for three years and it's still there an functions just as it should.
Otherwise, I agree with blackbird. I plan to install some sound deaden throughout my car this summer. I've noticed the ride isn't really as bad as it sounds...if that makes sense.

Re: What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
Before you make any final decisions, you might consider a search on Moog replacements. While the 5662's are close, many (to include me) have found that the 5665's jack the rear up. I replaced the insulator with radiator hose, which dropped the rear a 1/2", but the car still sat too high for my tastes. I cut part of a coil, but I'm still dissatisfied. There's also the cargo version CC635 which some have used.

Re: What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
If my solution is about the same rate as stock, they my shocks are good. Any way if I set it up for the same rate, I will just get clearance, so may be it is not worth it.
I think I will keep it this way, I will still scratch the air dam on bumps at 5mph and I will still feel all the imperfections of the road. My old air dam had between \ and ( instead of /, that is why I was not touching that much. I dont want to quickly go back to the old shape because there is a difference in engine temperature.

Re: What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
i couldnt understand ur post at all loopingz... lol. have no idea with the / and the \ or the engine temp having affect on the old shape? of wat? lol
jamesC i usually dont post the CC635 bc they are a weird spring. they came in cars that needed "stiffer" springs for the cargo area. now i put the "" around stiffer bc they are only stiffer when more weight is added. believe it or not the CC635 is a progressive spring... from what ive seen with pics. which is why its supposidly stiffer than the moog 5665s. most part stores get the 5665 and CC635 mixed up. you could order the CC635 and get 5665s in the box. the better spring of choice is the 5665 tho. proggressive springs are not for performance at all.
With that said the 5665 is rated at 107lbin rate linear. some believe it raises the rear ride height by 1/2 or so. but this is bc ppl usually swap them with sagging old springs. most new stock replacements will raise ride height due to spring sagging. now i kno you kno this bc ive read past posts from u. but also what is being said is that moog is way off on the rear rates of the moog 5665. that they are not actually a 107lb rate but closer to a 160lbin rate. ppl have stated that cutting a 1/2 coil of the moog 5665 will increase spring rate to about 200lb in or so.
easiest way to do it is replace rear springs with moog 5665. replace stock isolator with heater hose and cut 1/2coil off the rear. good for about 1" drop and increased linear spring rate.
how much have u cut from the 5665s jamesC? and how much of a drop was it good for? im planning on doing the same as u. and i want it close to the sportlines ride height. i already hacked 3/4 coil off my new moog 5664s. a 1.5" drop and a 875lbin spring rate estimated. now i need to figure out the rear. prob is that the wire on the rear springs is wound tight for only a short part at the top of the spring and then widens immensly. so cutting off more than 1/2 coil will increase spring rate too much to fast

Long story short for me personally is that I swapped in the 5662's and found that the car rides a bit lower at 26 3/4" than the OE ride height (I've read 27 1/2", but I'm yet to confirmed it). Though I removed the rear insulator and replaced it with radiator hose and though I cut 1/4 of a coil from the 5665's (with the idea I'd trim a bit more later if necessary), the rear ride height is still nearly 27 3/4. The isolator was good for 1/2", the coil "maybe" another 1/4".

Due to my low stance my previous airdam was bent backward. Now I replaced it, I run cooler, but as it is not bent backward, I am touching in so many places...

Re: What spring and shock combo for original ride eight.
ive just here to clarify the specualtions of the weird 5662/5664/5665 spring rates. i also kno from alot of research that the CC635 progressive rear cargo coil spring rates are not WS6 springs.... they are not a performance suspension spring. the correct replacements for a stock WS6/IROC spring would be the 5662front /5665 rear.
i kno this bc i have my stock WS6 front and rear springs. and i have the moog 5665s. they are the same. the moog 5664 is the same as my stock WS6 springs but the wire DIA is thicker... which is why it has a 748lbin rate vs the stock 648 or 704lbin rate. ive found that moogs spring rates are alil more than stock. but the 5662 is the closest replacement for the stock WS6 spring.
5660=598lbin
5662=704lbin
5664=748lbin
5665=107lbin/ some believe has a higher rate which is why it sits higher than stock.
cc635=are progressive but im sure they max out in the 130lbin rate. but im sure they start at a lower 80lb rate like the sportlines. which are a 80-130lbin rate.
if yours is rubbing and u dont want to ruin ur new air dam i would put the stockers back in and then cut them for a 1" drop. the increased spring rate will decrease ur abilty to rub the air dam.
how much and where did u get your air dam from? i might be looking to replace mine

30$ including shipping for a brand new. Other stores are usually closer to 40$...
