90 RS lowering...

I was looking at the 2" front, 1.8" rear drop springs. Is there any issue with cutting stock springs that low? If its alright is there an exact coils cut to drop ratio for the RS stock springs? I've seen it varies greatly by spring rate. Thanks

Re: 90 RS lowering...

There is a list on here somewhere that gives you an idea of how many coils to cut off. There is also an excell file posted recently that might help you. I don't personally know for sure, but doing a little searching should help you find what you need. You will also need to know what springs you have in order to determine spring rate (and that'll let you know what to cut).

Thanks for the reply. I haven't found what your talking about exactly, but I guess 3/4 of a coil is good for me. I'm looking for a relatively drastic drop. I guess that should give me what I'm looking for.

I'll see if I can dig it up for you. I would reccomend doing a little instead of alot at first because you can cut more off, but you can't put it back on. What shocks you going with on it?

Re: 90 RS lowering...

I'll have to see how easy my pivot bolts loosen out. Its pretty rusted, but the rear end came apart ok. I may not want to stress the bushing multiple times. There are some KYB shocks and struts on there now. Do I want to cut a different length off the back springs to compensate for it being thinner?

Re: 90 RS lowering...

If I'm not mistaken, the back requires a little less than the front.
Here is that thread I was talking about. When you click it, hit save, then when it prompts you to pick a save name, make sure to delete the .doc If you can find your springs free height, spring rate, and rough wheel rate, it should be able to get you close. The other thread I can find. Do you know which spring rate you have on the car?

Re: 90 RS lowering...

1/2 coil front, 3/4 coil rear.

I did that to a 90 RS with 86 IROC springs & a 92 RS with stock RS springs, then autocrossed both cars.

Both were on 16" x 8" stock wheels (ran 245s on the 90, 255/295s on the 92), rode nice, were low (but not too low) & had no serious rubbing issues anywhere.

Re: 90 RS lowering...

Do you think that would drop it down my desired 2"?
