squeeking from front tire

My front driver side tire is making a loud squeeking noise while i drive kinda like a squeeky bike. It also every now and then will go into a massive wobble did it durring a quick acceleration before. What could be causing it. O i do need new front tires and alignment.

I'd check the wheel bearings.

would the bearings also cause the massive wobble?

Re: squeeking from front tire

Hmm, my brothers G8 GT squeaks but have come down to it being the ball joint (G8board.com has tons of people complaining about the ball joints squeaking and moving excessively) (since its literally sitting loose in the housing). Might have to check his wheel bearings as well, don't know why that didn't pop into my head. Since his wheel moves back and forth very easily while its bolted on and has a slight hesitation when turning the wheel (Same hesitation amount as scene when moving the wheel in and out with your hands, as if to check for wheel bearing problems).

Also, my brother has noticed this wobble when turning as well, and he takes turns hardcore in this car. So I'm sure that's what they will most likely be.

These are also the same symptoms I had with my Z31, the wheel bearings came out in fragments. Literally, the race or cage the bearings sit in were gone and just ***** fell out. Crazy bad wheel bearings.

Let me know if you find out exactly what it was.

Thanks...

Yes, if they're bad enough--and they may be. Most owners never think to clean and relube bearings as regular maintenance. If you're experiencing "massive" wobble, I suggest locating the problem, whatever it may be, before driving the car any further.

Re: squeeking from front tire

The squealing could be due to a "warped" rotor. When the rotor is warped, it means there's building up on spots (usually due to excessive or hard breaking), which causes the squealing as it passes the brake pads. To fix this problem, have the rotor resurfaced (good idea if your doing one, to do both), or buy new rotors. And since you have it all apart, its a good idea to check the remaining brake components. Like your calipers, pads, lines and make sure all is ok.
Good luck! The squealing is really annoying and really embarrassing! I've been there.

Yup, you could have a $100k car, if its squeaking or thumping down the road, your going to look bad, even though its probably something dumb or is usually a problem everyone has, like bad wheel bearings, brakes and loud exhausts due to holes. Its funny actually how that works. Car is awesome, oh but it squeaks, no longer awesome, even though its a $5 part or something.

A good example is grinding or missing a gear. EVERYONE DOES IT AND HAS DONE IT, but when it happens, your going to look bad or be laughed at. I just love how funny people are towards things like this...haha.

Well back to topic.

My brothers G8 GT stopped squeaking while driving but still squeaks over bumps. It used to squeak during every turn of the wheel and no longer does that either. I sprayed his whole steering assembly down with Deep Creep, the problem was there for a day after I sprayed it down, but is now gone. Maybe it leaked into whatever part is doing this and lubed it some.

Well, plans are to take to the dealer and have them fix it, since its under warranty. I'll let you know when he does what the problem was.

My rear wheel on my 02 ws6 has the same problem but it is constant wobble the car does not vibrate. Could it be a bent rim it also squeeks any ideas

You should easily be able to determine if this is a wheel bearing, a ball joint or the rotor. Put the car up on jack stands (do a search on here for placement if you're not sure where to put them) grab the tire on two sides and try to move it back and forth... side to side if you will. If the tire moves back and forth (or wobbles) without the strut moving at all, it's wheel bearings. Another good indicator is to just spin the tire. You'll be able to hear the bearings grinding if their shot. If the strut wobbles with the movement of the tire, it's a ball joint. If nothing wobbles, it's rotors. Based on your description and without seeing it though my guess is it's a wheel bearing. Don't drive it like this... it's dangerous and at the least will cause more damage than you already have. I just completed doing all three of these items... ball joints, rotors and bearings. I think it was about $200 for all of the parts for both sides. Fairly cheap considering the difference in the steering and drivability. Small price to pay to cruise by the door of the club

Re: squeeking from front tire

If the squeek goes away when you hit the brakes, be sure that its not just a wear sensor telling you your pads are gone. That wouldn't explain the wobble though. Might or might not be 2 seperate problems.

Re: squeeking from front tire

well the squeek sounds like a un oiled bike squeeking down the road. same type of sound. So it may be the rotors or bearings but would the bearings be the cause of the wobble or something worse. Its only the left tire that does it.

Re: squeeking from front tire

the squeek is more of a chirp and seems to be getting louder and now is also kind of there when im breaking. Someone that heard it said it sounds like the break sensor. So i think ill start at the breaks. Still dont know bout the left tire wobble. The tire is prety worn and im hopping its just the tires and alignment.

Re: squeeking from front tire

I'd just bend back the wear sensor a bit and see if it goes away. If it does then go for the brake job.
