How to flush the power steering fluid

Does the line coming from the power steering pump/reservoir is the end that goes in the bucket to flush the fluid?

Re: How to flush the power steering fluid

I flushed mine the ******* way. Pressure line started leaking and I procrastinated on fixing it so for a while I was just adding fluid. Does that count?

Also if I'm leaking 5 qts of oil every 3000 miles I don't need to change the oil right?

In all seriousness though I'd like to know the answer on this too.

I'm pretty sure that metal line in the circle is where the fluid returns to the reservoir. But would like confirmation before I go buy a clear hose and tear everything apart.

That is the return

You can tell be the simple clamps on the line. High pressure side exceeds 1200psi and is significantly heavier with hydraulic fittings on the ends

So, when you flush, the old fluid will dump from that metal line?

Re: How to flush the power steering fluid

Yeah that is the return line, do like you said and plug the res. and put a clear line on the return line you have circled, then you can gravity bleed the system, just dump new fluid in the res. and watch the clear tube, when it runs clear, then reconnect the line to the res., start the car and turn the wheel lock to lock about 20x, make sure you jack up the front end to get the pressure off the wheels. crank the wheel SLOW, it will spit fluid out if you get crazy with it, you might have to repeat the process a few times to get all the air out of the system, let the car sit about 15 mins before you repeat to let the air gather in the high spots.

Yeah, what I'm gonna do is suck the fluid out the reservoir. Put a clear line on that metal line and run it to a 2 liter bottle. Then put a vice grip on the rubber return line on the reservoir to close it off.

And yes raise wheels turn lock to lock while keeping reservoir full and watching fluid dump out the clear hose.

Then when done, put a new rubber line on. Fill to the cold. Start engine raise vehicle, turn lock to lock and keeping a check on fluid level.
