What to coat subframes with?

I had SSM subframes installed in my RS last year, and I did not coat them with anything before installing them. Needless to say, they are now rusting a bit, but not terribly bad. (Car is always garaged)
What should I use to coat them? Ive heard good things about POR15, but shoudl I just use an undercoating type spray?

I sprayed mine with primer and rustoleum, but I don't think it's durable enough to take what goes on down there.

POR15, just don't get it on your skin and make sure you use it in a well ventilated area.

I second the por15, when properly prepped and applied you can hit it with a hammer and it won't chip. www.por15.com

I third the por-15. Use all three of their steps (marine-clean, metal-ready, por-15) for the best coating. I used their "super starter kit, semi-gloss black" to coat my rear axle. It was a great deal at $15 + $5 for shipping; and it was just enough for the job.

Ok, sounds like Por15 is the way to go.. Only problem is that they are welded in. Should I bother to go through the trouble of taking them out to coat them or coat them from what I can get under the car?

Paint them on the car. The welds need to be painted too, and you shouldn't be able to get them out without making a big mess anyway.
