Shock Spacer?
Hey guys, I'm restoring the 84 TA, first parts to come in were shocks. When I took the old ones off there was no spacer just the stud, washer and nut. But with the new one there is a one inch or so spacer that slides onto the nut. The shocks I got were stock Monroe replacements. Do I need that spacer? If I do which side of the axle should it go on?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Shock Spacer?
So no one knows about the spacer? I'm leaning towards not using them because the originals didn't have them. I'm restoring the car but I'm not crazy about going OEM original GM parts for everything. But if there is a reason why there is a spacer then I'll use it, otherwise I'll just not use it as my original shocks didn't even have a spacer.

Re: Shock Spacer?
someone probably removed it for that slight hight drop, I used shock stud extender on mine to make it even longer to raise it a tad, though since I put on the notch back, its now to high, they need to come off.

Yea, those I knew what they were. The one I'm talking about is closer to 2 inches and either metal or some kind of poly material. Rock hard and only fits on the bottom stud. The originals (I'm assuming they were original) didn't have such a spacer.

Re: Shock Spacer?
it goes on the stud before you put it on the mount to space it out so it doesn't hit the rear.

Ok, now that I think about it I think the old ones had something as well but it was formed into the stud itself and much smaller. Thing that threw me off was it was so big I was like wth? I guess I have it mocked up right then, though I'll check to be sure. Thanks guys.

Re: Shock Spacer?
Yes and no but it can and does at times.
Dunno if that was done in his case but in mine, the shock stud extenders gave me a tad bit more hight n the rear to make my car lvl, but now that the stock hatch is gone, Im now jacked up a bit in the rear. So they need to come out.
