My P255's rub the wheelwell!

I got four new P255 50 R16's so I could rotate them. I thought 255's could fit in the front of F-body's without rubbing??? Only the drivers sied tire does it when I turn left. One guy said something about having the quick ratio steering box being the problem. Does anyone else have 255's on the front?

I have them as well. They do rub a little at full lock, when backing up. Nothing really serious. You should be able to see the spot they hit on the inner wheel well, look for the shiny spot..... You may be able to move stuff around to get a little more clearance.

Just as Ploegi said, check for the shiney spot. I've also had problems with 255's up front, but fortunately I had them test fitted before I bought them.

Another thing, believe it or not, many tire manufacturers have slightly different tire widths than comparable brands of the same 255 50 R16 size. It seems that the BFG 255's are slightly wider than say a Firestone SZ50 255.

I can't fit the BFG 255's up front, but the SZ50 255's fit fine. Odd...

The '255' is section width, or total width of the tire(including sidewall) mounted on a specific size of wheel. Actual tread width varies from brand to brand, and even tires within the same brand vary. A little rub doesn't hurt anything.

I've seen the same thing. I have the Comp T/A ZR's and my friend has the SZ50's, both tires in the same exact size (255/50ZR16), and my tires are noticeably wider in section width, although the tread width is about the same. The SZ50 has more of a square profile to it, but it just doesn't look as beefy as the Comp T/A since it doesn't have the same overall width.

Thank you, gentlemen.

I was able to bang out the spot where it rubs. They are Yokahamas I got on sale for $109 each.

I have BFG ZR 255/55/16 on all corners. The fronts do rub at full lock and on hard, tight cornering. Other than that, no problems.

I have Toyo Proxes F-1 255/50/16 on my rear and I was having problems with the wheels rubbing the inner lip of the wheel well.
It actually cut a slice of the tire off and these tires are only 2 months old.
I guess it is all my fault since I have FRONT GTA wheels all the way around and I installed lowering springs without checking the shocks to see if they were still good.
The shocks seemed good, the car didn't bounce in the rear.
I just installed some KYB Gas-a-just and when I took off the old Monroes they didn't have any pressure in them.
I hope this fixes the problem, haven't driven the car yet, I just finished cleaning myself off.

Something else I noticed. With my steering wheel at dead center, the passenger side front tire sticks out about an inch further than the driver side, which is the only one that rubs.

Do I need a spacer? Tie rods?

Sounds like you need an alignment. Unless you accidentally put one front and one rear rim up front..?

You can fit 275/40/17's on all 4 corners...you need the proper backspacing and an adjustable pan hard rod to center the rear end...
