WS6 springs, where can I find them?

I've been trying to track down WS6 springs to put in my 91 rs. How can I find these and their spring rate? THe local GM dealer says they NEED a vin# to find the spring because they only list one type, can I say BULLSH**! Why is it so hard to get these springs? I don't want to go with moog, I've delt with these before and they always raise the car about an inch, and I don't have the tools to cut them down. Has anyone done this mod before? How did you do it?

Don't waste your time and money trying to come up with the GM springs. There are plenty of aftermarket ones that are as good as or better than the factory ones, for less money and trouble.

There are some things that are appropriate to get from GM and some that aren't. Springs are definitely in the latter group.

yeah, i realize that buying the springs from the dealer is insane, i was only attempting to get a spring rate and dimension figure so when and if ever find aftermarket springs, I could compare them to the factory dimensions.
My question is WHERE can I find a good aftermarket ws6 spring that I won't have to cut? Any suggestions?

I would like to know where to get ws6 springs as well. All the aftermarket ones lower the car around 1.5". The damn thing drags and bottoms out on everything now. I sure as hell don't want to lower it. Drug my new sfc across a speed bump just last week. My front air damn looks like I used it to plow snow with. I would like some good springs that won't lower the car.

Go look in a Moog catalog, at the back, in the buyer's guide. It has all that info. What you do is look up the springs for your car, then in the buyer's guide they're sorted by outer diameter and end shape, so you just look through the table for one that has about the same installed height (not the same ride height) and the highest rate you can get, in the right design.

You will find that there is a spring they list as the replacement for certain years of IROCs, nothing else (no Pontiacs at all for some reason), which has a rate of over 700 lbs/in. All the others for these cars are in the 350-500 lbs/in range. I have the 700 lbs/in one, I highly recommend it.

You will also find that if you count up all the rear springs Moog lists for all these cars: both makes, all years, all engine and trim combinations, the grand total is.... are you ready? ..... one. It's a "cargo coil" variable rate unit, much like the stock one. I also have that in my car, and it also works fine.

I have moog ones now and all they do is bottom out...I hate the stupid things. I am going to go buy the GM ones and replace the stock suspension. I heard there is a heavy duty set for an 82 or somthing to that effect

RB83l69, do you happen to have the part# for the 700/lb springs, I don't have a moog catalog, and all the parts stores around here aren't very user friendly,.. It would really help me out..
I had a diffrent problem with my moog springs, they rasied the vehicle about 1.5 inches higher than its supposed to ride. I'm gonna try to get the spring codes off a friends ws6 for sh**s and giggles, just to see how much GM wants, I'll post them if i can get to them, his cars in storage. Thanks for all your info!

I'm not positive, but check 5665 for the fronts and CC635 for the rears.

The WS6 front springs are code-BZX (part no.) 14029398. This is from looking at the original tags on the factory springs in my car. When I went to my dealer to price some "GM" front springs, they told me that they cost around $90.00-$100.00 dollars EACH at "trade" price. Full retail price being much higher. After I heard the "EACH" at the end of his price quote, I decided to go aftermarket.

I always assumed that TRW/Federal Mogul, which has now taken over Moog, was the original supplier to GM for the coil springs on these cars. However, I was informed that the original supplier to GM was/is a company called Eaton Detroit Spring Inc.

Does anyone know for sure?

The Moog part no. for the WS6 front springs is CS-5665.

The rear springs either come in single rate or variable rate styles. The original GM rear springs came only in a single rate style on WS6 equipped F-bodies.

The Moog part no. for the (single-rate) rear coil is CS-5662.

Goodluck!
