That looks awesome. Weight savings would be tremendous, and it's really not that expensive. Would it be strong enough though? The stock k-member is about 5" wide and about 2" tall. This one is just a single bar.

Ahhhh. Look at all that room for header clearance. Definatly going to be one of next winter's projects.
Can those tubular lower control arms be used with the struts or do you HAVE to convert to coilovers? I'm picking up some Koni SPA1 struts and hate to have to convert to coilovers.
More weight savings... I was looking in a Harwood catalog today and saw the complete fiberglass front end. That may also be part of next winter's projects.

with road techs...i do recall him saying you need to go with coil-overs
jayson and vernon over at www.paracing.net can build the k-member without coil overs for you but i dont see why you wouldn't want coil overs since you have mostly a race car anyway.
also..pa's coil over kit uses any kind of strut you already have. so you can still use those same struts

How much stronger is that than stock? I know chromoly tubes are very strong, but its just looks so wimpy! Maybe its just the pictures. Thanks.
Also, is there any welding needed to install it?

Are these for drag racing only? Will it hold for easy road racing and street duty?
I am currently building an '89 Formula 350 that will road race, drag race, street duty, show etc.

your stock k-member is strongly by far...this is more of a diet mod than anything.
no welding needs to be done...bolts in.
if you are going to road race the car they have a "road race" version to sell you. just be sure to tell them about it

you can use most stock and aftermarket struts with my stuff. Most of the strut bodies measure between 2.10-2.20 dia..
I never have made a conversion to use stock springs because basically no one has wanted them. with the coil overs you get ride height adjustment, choice of spring rate from 50-2000 #, and ease of spring change for tuning. I dont offer a drag race vs. a road race model. I have one basic model that with the control arms is lighter than stock. The control arm brackets are 3/16" plates that are fully gusseted unlike some drag race model I have seen. I know that you could save a few lbs eleswere on the car instead of skimping on the safety of the k-member.
